Should English be the official language in the USA?
The City Council approved the measure by a vote of 3 to 2 Monday night despite dozens of objections.
Supporters said the move would save tax dollars by not having to translate documents into languages other than English.

ABSOLUTELY!! It should have been made the official language long ago.
Spanish should not be any type of official language/second language.
English is the best, most well-known language and also the most-important, everyone should learn it.

The problem with a multi-lingual society is that minorities who don't speak the dominant language will stay poor. This is a large part of how the Latinos continue to be exploited in the US.

I completely agree with you. I'm not going to move to France and expect everyone to stop speaking French and start speaking English for me. I think if you want to live in this country, you should learn the language of this country.

yes!! i think that the offical language of the US SHOULD be english. I believe that if you live here, then you should be able to speak the langusge fluently. it's ok to come from another country and speak another language at home or with a group of people that speak the same language, but in places of business and schools, you should have to be able to speak english.

Think about the money the government would save with having the forms printed in ONE language, and having people speaking in ONE language when people call for assistance from the government.
It might be narrow-minded, but I think that it is a reasonable expectation.

English is the most widely used language in the world. Every Country should have English as their official language.
Of course it should. We live in America and why should the rest of this country conform to the minority(other languages). They should conform to the majority which is the English speaking population.
I don't know what these dozens of complaints were about, since this argument is pretty black and white to me, but I can not think of any reasoning behind not approving this measure. I'm Armenian and when my family came here we didn't speak a lick of English. Now ,clearly, I speak better then most people who were born here. :)
