Better yet - enforce the immigration laws and fine their employers. It will have the same effect.

only about 20% work in the fields. I'm still siding with the idea of heavy fines and jail time for employers who refuse to stop hiring illegals. But off their food supply and they will go home. I won't have to change jobs either.
Better idea. We deport the illegals back to their home countries, and they can take the pro-illegal supporters with them.
Yeh but what if they resort to stealing and violence when they have no money instead of just going back home? I kind of like your idea but I think it just wouldn't be that easy to get rid of them. I think we need more drastic measures like hunting down all the illegals and sending them to Iraq.

There are plenty of people who are opposed to illegal immigration but are hesitant to support draconian measures that would negatively impact our economy. Personally, I'm more concerned about communicable disease and security issues than who picks tomatoes.
Make hiring an illegal immigrant a felony punishable by 5 years in a "pound me in the a--" prison, and a $100,000 fine, first offense.
Second offense, 10 years and a $500,000 fine.
Third offense, life, and a $1 million fine.
With no one hiring them, they'd deport themselves. Problem solved.

The best way to get rid of illegal immigrants is to start enforcing current laws. Start fining employers who hire illegal immigrants. Start deporting illegals. Build a wall and secure the border. NO AMNESTY!

Well I have mixed emotions with illegal immigrants. A lot of illegals have a hard time where they currently are at, and may not be able to afford a green card. But, what pisses me off is a number of issues, quoted from Wiki.
An article by medical lawer Madeleine Pelner in the conservative Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons concluded that the burden of illegal immigrants on the health care system in the US has forced many hospitals to close due to unpaid bills. Between 1993 and 2003, 60 hospitals in California alone were forced to close, and many others had to reduce staff or implement other procedures which reduced the level of service they could provide. The article attributes these closings to illegal immigration.

Plus, many illegals are on welfare, illegally. So we are paying for people who are not legal citizens of our country. Then what happens when they have their children here? People born in the US are citizens, regardless of their parents. So then those children's parents sometimes get sent back to wherever they came from. So then a child doesn't have a parent, that's not fair for the child. I've always felt that we should hand out temporary green cards, and temporary social security numbers (different than legal citizens, put like an asterisk before and after it), and when those people get on their feet, they pay us for the green card. If they fail to pay, send them back, and never permit them to the US again. That would get rid of illegal aliens, make them temporary citizens, if they don't pay, get rid of them. I know you didn't ask for the other stuff, but I put it in anyways.
go after employers.its not just farmers usein' em.i'm a carpenter in texas,and the illegals have completly ruined the market for independant tradesmen.if the people payin' them got big fines,or criminal charges,they would quit hiring them,and theyed quit coming here!
You know I like your solution ...I just don't Think any of these people could stand a $7.25 an hour job from dusk till dawn...Id pay mad dollars to have someone ask for a 6 month vacation and go work in the fields on a hot summer day with no breaks no paid holidays (yes this means your butt works 4th of July) I give'em maybe 5hours and they'll call it quits.

The best way to get rid of "illegal immigrants" is to stop invading other countries and taking over land. When you take away a people's homeland, you take away territory that is deeply connected to an economic and social way of life.
