Do you believe the immigration debate is creating anti-immigant sentiment in the U.S? If so, why?
Answer:
It is actually the people FOR illegal immigration creating this entire thing.
How? you may ask.
Well, they brought it into light about the illegal immigrants here in this nation, and how "rough" they have it, and how they should be rewarded with amnesty for their illegal acts.
I don't know about you, but when someone even begins to think of rewarding criminals, I have issue with it. I am not willing to AGAIN move the line back in the sand for 12 + (emphasis on the +) million people that felt it easier to just ignore the laws and do what they desired to anyways. Remember how we gave amnesty to all of those illegal immigrants in the 80's, and we were then supposed to get tough on the immigration laws in place? Yeah, how is that working?
It is proven that the way they wish to do it will not work. They thought it was going to be glossed over, and too many people objected to it. Now there are a lot of politicians that are looking at losing their seats in elections when the time comes if they vote for this bill. The public is speaking loud and clear, and a majority are against it. Sorry if this hurts your bleeding heart, but laws are there for a reason.
Unfortunately it is. However, this situation cannot be compared to when our ancestors arrived on these shores. The place was mostly uninhabited... there was no over crowding, no health care to rip off, no jobs to take... it was a very different time.
The sad thing is.. i do not think it is the illegals that people hate.. it is the fact that they are breaking our laws.. and our government is just sitting by and letting them do it.
It is not fair to Americans and it is just not right!
I don't see the point in changing anything now. Don't we have BIGGER problems to worry about - like WHEN THE HELL ARE THEY PLANNING TO BRING OUR TROOPS HOME!?
we Americans don't have an anti-immigrant attitude
legal immigrant okay
illegal immigrant bye bye
Is the US a nation of laws?

My anti ILLEGAL immigrant sentiment started waaaaaaaaay before this current debate started. Try visiting a border state, and you will see why. Most people have no issue with immigrants. But there are huge issues with illegal ones. You left ILLEGAL out of your question.
The Americans do not hate immigrates, they hate Mexicans, pure and simple, yes they do go in the USA, with no documents for the simple reason the American government trough the state department wont hand in any visas.
The Americans hate us, and in Mexico we are learning to hate you back, the Miss Universe contest is a good example.
I think there is a tremendous difference in the minds of voters concerning immigration and illegal-immigration (invasion). I think most Americans cherish each family's story of immigrating to America and following the legal course to citizenship. I think the negative sentiment comes from the way in which our lives are being changed without any recourse. If I were a legal immigrant from Kenya, or Korea, I would be just as upset (over the unequal treatment, favoring illegals) as any red neck Republican like me.
I do not think it has changed the overall sentiment anywhere.
There are a few who are and always have been anti-immigrant.
The VAST MAJORITY is fine with immigration and anti-ILLEGAL immigration, and always will be.
There are a few who are absolutely in favor of opening the borders and they should be given passage on a ship 1/2 way to Europe. These people are happy to destroy America.
It's about ILLEGALS, breaking the laws, not immigrants who come here legally. Why the problem understanding this?
=
Not at all. See you miss the point. I think the county is waking up to ILLEGAL immigration. The mass media loves to leave out the ILLEGAL part...wait did I just say ILLEGAL... might have left out the ILLEGAL part.
As for immigration, you are correct. this country is built on it. I do not feel that the country is beginning to be anti-immigrant. I feel this country is doing the opposite. Illegal immigration hits legal immigrants the hardest. They take the jobs that the immigrants would normally do, they take the housing and the health care. All of which are degraded because of the influx of people. Wages are down, Housing is up, Hospitals close, if anything this country is seriously going to bat for immigration.
we hate mexicans?????that BS!!! thats why we give them tons of minority laws im so tired of illegals doing whatever it takes for more sympathy im going to have to join the military to go to college if I was mexican i wouldnt have that problem!!!
I do not think the anti immigrant sentiment has changed at all most people are fine with those who follow the rules and most people are NOT ok with those who do not. What you are seeing is a public that is fed up and angry because instead of closing the border to all but legal traffic the governments answer to the illegal immigration problem is to give pretty much blanket amnesty/citizenships, and promise to work harder on the border. We tried this once already and it failed miserable to the tune of 12 - 18 million more illegal immigrants. Rewarding is a bad policy it only increases the demand at the border.
By the way if you want a marking point when the public became outraged the rallies would be the proverbial straw, so to speak. Those were pro illegal immigrant rallies. Looking back, rallies to demand amnesty from a public that is already tired of the whole situation and demanding our laws be upheld may not have been such an intelligent decision.
My ancestors were immigrants they registered when they got off the boat, not me I was born here in the US of A. I have something against people breaking the law and right now 12-20 million illegals are doing just that, and we are going to reward them for that. Paris Hilton went to jail for her crime as small as it is compared to the laws broken by illegals. Why should they get special treatment? Oh and take a look at the link below to see how much it will cost the tax payer.
There is nothing new about this debate. It's not immigration. It's Xenophobia.
When my ancestors came here, the Irish were shot at coming off the boats. In the New England area there were signs that said "employment opportunity--No Irish."
When the Irish Catholics started to immigrate, the Irish Protestants stood beside the Germans and shot at them.
Ironically, the country and the Constitution were deisgned to create a society in a constant state of "revolution" and yet we resist change. ;-)
I don't think so. I think Americans that are against amnesty are smart enough to know the difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL.
It's the pro-amnesty crowd that seems to have a hard time with the difference. They tend to blur the two or just don't care. It's like when Harry Reid called the illegal alien criminals "undocumented Americans." He admits that they are not here legally but then has the gall to call them Americans. He's such an @ss!
You know the answer, because this question gets asked multiple times per day. We are still accepting legal immigrants. The flag burning illegals are not welcome.
Because every nation that has immigration laws enforce them, except the US. I am part Native American, so how can you say I don't belong here? Besides I was BORN here which makes me a citizen, and a proud one at that!
Maybe we should all STOP paying taxes and see how fast the illegals run back to mexico.
as opposed to anti-immigration....
