A recent patient survey indicated that 70% of the women who gave birth at Parkland in the first three months of 2006 were illegal immigrants. That’s 11,200 babies born every year just in Dallas alone. According to the article, Parkland Hospital spent $70.7 million delivering 15,938 babies in 2004, but managed to end up with almost $8 million dollars in surplus funding. Medicaid kicked in $34.5 million, Dallas County taxpayers kicked in $31.3 million and the federal government tossed in another $9.5 million.
The average patient in Parkland’s maternity ward is 25 years old, married and giving
birth to her second child. She is also an illegal immigrant. By law, pregnant women cannot be denied medical care based on their immigration status or ability to pay.
Well that doesn’t mean they should receive better care than everyday, middle-class, LEGAL American citizens! But they sure do at Parkland Hospital.

The Dallas Morning News article followed a Hispanic woman who was a patient at one of the clinics and pregnant with her third child, her previous two were also born at Parkland. Her first two deliveries were free and the Mexican native was grateful for the cheap ride, because it would have cost her $200 to deliver them in Mexico.
This time, the hospital wants her to pay $10 per visit and $100 for the delivery, but she was not sure if she could come up with the money. Not that it matters, the hospital won’t turn her away. Why even bother asking for payments anymore?
How long has this been going on? What are the long-term affects?
Well, another subject of the article was born at Parkland in 1986, shortly after her mother entered the U.S. illegally. Now she is having her own child there as well. That’s right, she’s technically a U.S. citizen. These women receive free prenatal care including medication, nutrition, birthing classes and child care classes. They also get freebies such as car seats, bottles, diapers and formula.
Most of these things are available to American citizens as well, but only for low-income applicants and even then, the red tape involved is almost insurmountable.
Because these women are illegal immigrants, they do not have to provide any sort of legitimate identification, no proof of income. An American citizen must provide a social security number, which would reveal their annual income. An illegal immigrant need to only claim to be poor and the hospital must take them at their word.
Wives of our military heroes, fighting and dying for our country don’t even recieve these kinds of perks. Don’t get me wrong, the health care is good, but they don’t recieve free handouts of car seats and diapers. So my question is this; does our public medical care system treat illegal immigrants better than American citizens? It’s obvious what the answer is.
The illegals medical care is free simply because they’re illegal immigrants. Once again, there is no way to verify their income.
Parkland Hospital offers indigent care to Dallas County residents who earn less than $40,000 per year. The difference is Americans have to prove that they did not refuse health coverage at their current job. The ‘free’ care is not so easy or free for Americans. But if your illegal, we’ll roll the rug carpet out for you, matter of fact, go ahead and get in the front of the line, because these Americans will be here awhile awaiting approval.
There are about 140 American patients who received roughly $4 million dollars for unreimbursed medical care. As it turns out, they did not qualify for free treatment because they resided outside of Dallas County. So Parkland Hospital is suing them! Illegals get a free ride, while U.S citizens who live outside of Dallas County get sued! (I feel like adding a few cuss words here, but I won’t).
If that isn’t annoying enough, the illegal immigrant patients are actually complaining about hospital staff not speaking Spanish. WT_? In this AP story, the author speaks with a woman who is upset that she had to translate comments from the hospital staff into Spanish. The doctor was trying to explain the situation to the family and the mother was forced to translate for her husband who only spoke Spanish. This was apparently a great injustice to her.
In an attempt to create a Spanish-speaking staff, Parkland Hospital is now providing incentives in the form of extra pay for applicants who speak Spanish. Additionally, medical students at the University of Texas Southwestern, for which Parkland Hospital is the training facility, will now have a Spanish language requirement added to their already overwhelming curriculum. No other school in the country boasts such a ridiculous multi-semester (multicultural) requirement.
I guess it’s a good thing we kept our son’s car seat, now if I can find those bottles…

The children's state health care bill the Senate Finance committee approved this week would make it much worse, since it would give 'free' insurance to children legally here (ah, but the statute says legality must be 'presumed') whose parents make less than $80,000 (ah, but the statute says a declaration of income by the parent is conclusive evidence of income.)

actually in New Mexico it is hard to find a good job anywhere unless you speak spanish because you have to cater to the people who only speak spanish, now thats discrimination. granted alot of people here do speak spanish and english by chioce, we shouldnt be forced to in order to get a good job. ive actually took my 7 year old out of bilingual in school because i would rather have her lean it by choice from myself or my family.

It is Americans fault who did not support Bush's bill. The bill said every immigrant would pay 5000 dollars, and that is for 12 million people. That is about 6 billion, USA would have gotten a lot of money. BULLSHIT!! if that hospital was'nt making money do you think they would still be runing? its all about the money. i can say the same thing for american citizens. a vast majority just sit at home doing nothing! while i get a big chunk of taxes taken out from my pay check. to pay for there medical, food stamps, & welfare. not to mention for programs for them to go to school for free & to top it off they dont even wanna do that. they just rather sit at home & watch t.v. while watching jerry springer or do drugs. while they have child after child. by the way in which case they also take those food stamps. sell them to some one for a lower amount of dollars than what the food stamps are worth & leave the babies hungry. so dont sit there & talk about stuff you know nothing about.

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, here’s a nice little piece about how the bad guys are taking over, little by little.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Tom Tancredo’s charge that Mexican drug cartels are buying up legitimate businesses in U.S. cities to launder money and using some of the proceeds to win local mayoral and city council seats for politicians who can shape the policies and personnel decisions of their police forces, has been backed up by a veteran gang investigator.
Richard Valdemar, a retired sergeant with the L.A. County sheriff’s department and a longtime member of a federal task force investigating gang activity, went beyond the charges made by Tancredo, the chairman of the House Immigration Reform Caucus who has led the fight to secure America’s southern border.
In fact, he cited first-hand experience in investigating attempts to take over seven cities in Los Angeles County – Southgate, Lynwood, Bell, Bell Gardens, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens and Huntington Park.
He also told WND in an exclusive interview that he has since become aware of similar efforts by Mexican drug cartels throughout the Southwest – in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas.
And here’s how they do it:
“In the typical scenario, a wealthy Mexican immigrant opens a business in a small town,” he says. “It could be a very nice Mexican restaurant. He’s well-dressed, speaks English, seemingly a real gentleman. He gets involved in the community. His business welcomes police officers with discounts. He makes friends with city officials and other businessmen. No one has any idea where his money comes from – the Mexican drug cartels.”
Valdemar says the agent of the cartels often sets up other businesses – including the sale of cheap used tires and used autos. These businesses are used almost exclusively as fronts for laundering money.
Then he begins targeting political power in the town. When election time rolls around, Valdemar says, he sponsors – directly or indirectly – a number of candidates for the city council with the express purpose of winning a majority of seats for his handpicked operatives. Some of the candidates are simply in place to level baseless accusations against incumbents, while others keep above the fray, positioning themselves for victory.
As soon as they take power, the new majority fires the city attorney and names a replacement. Often the second city official to go is the city manager. Both of these moves are designed to cover up the illicit activities that will follow.
City contracts for trash collection and other services are given to friendly businesses – also in league with the cartel. Regulations on auto-repair businesses and alcohol sales are lifted – again, making it easier for cartel-tied businesses to operate more freely. Gambling ordinances are changed to permit casinos and bingo parlors. Loan sharking, prostitution and increased drug business follow – all of which increase revenues for the cartels and power for their agents in the city.
Valdemar says very few prosecutions are successful because of the wealth and political ties of those involved. The situation in the Southwest is grave, he says, and the problem is spreading nationwide.
“We lost California,” the Arizona resident says. “That’s why I don’t live there any more.”
