English first they say. But who should they really blame as well for past haters who made it hard to learn it?

if you are having difficulty with our language then get a tutor...or stay in your own damn country and leave us alone!
No one hates anyone for trying to learn their language. Even Bush has problem with English, and I do not even want to talk about his so called Spanish.
you talking about the trespassers who demand that we feed and clothe them, as well as learn their language so that we can accommodate them?
I was in the Navy, I got transferee to Italy, I was going to be there for 2 years only. I did not 'need ' to learn Italian, but out of 'respect' for the country I was living in I learned it. Anyone that comes here to live should learn English, out of 'respect'. I was not going to stay in Italy, but immigrants are staying here.
Learn English or go back to where your from.
It is the duty of those arriving to fit in as best they can and to integrate into a new culture.
It is the duty of the country to give them support to allow that to happen.If we do not, it is at our own peril. The immigrants become a burden on the entire society. So it is enlightened self-interest that make this advisable.
Who's society placed hardships on them? Their own or ours? If you call hardship providing work, services, interpreters, education, transportation, food causing hardship I would be curious as to your definition of hospitable treatment. If you are speaking of their society, what would you like us to do? I would be very interested in ways we can make THEIR society better so that we would not be having the issues we are currently having.
When my mother's family came to the US, without more than a 3rd grade education and without being able to say a single word in English, her father made a household rule that only English would be spoken by his children, because they were now Americans.
He made his family embrace America and the American way of life. That's the only attitude that I respect. Anything else is crap.
Before they came they unless they were living on mars, they knew this was a English speaking country, and they would need to adjust to it, not the other way around.What is the past haters of the 80's all about
You are correct, we need to ban all Literature , written, in
Spanish, that way they learn or leave.

Prior to the 80s? this is the year 2007 - live in the present buddy.. it's a better place to live- now a days they have all kinds of free programs set up to help someone learn English.. in Libraries, in high schools, they even have classes for school age kids that speak Spanish that they can learn in their own language as well as learn English. 2007 it's a nice place to be... it's good to learn about the past so you don't repeat mistakes, it's bad to dwell and live in the past because then you never move forward

YES it is fair to criticize anyone who has not made the effort to learn the language of the country they choose to reside in. It is no one else's responsibility but their OWN. If someone, anyone, wants to learn any other language, they are free to do so! Who is stopping them?!?!?!? GIVE ME A BREAK!
