How does a US citizen go about applying for political asylum to another country?

I'm thinking of fleeing the US before the sh*t hits the fan.

I don`t think being a coward qualifies you to be granted asylum any where .You could sneak across the border into Mexico , you should fit in real well there ! Or , convert to Islam , and take off for Iran , and hide in one of the mosque ,Oops, never mind ; cowards are beheaded there.. The Arctic looks like your best hope ; other than the fact that the yellow stripe on your back will be showing up in the white background for the Polar Bears to see. Assuming the country you wish to flee to follows the mandates of the U.N., you must meet the international definition of refugee. Which grounds of persecution do you face here in the United States?

You just don't know how good you have it here. Try some international travel sometime. You will count your blessings once you see how others have to live.
