Do you think illegal day laborers should be drinking on street corners, sleeping under neighborhood porches ?
D.C. Council member says city officials have settled on two possible sites near a Northeast shopping plaza for a center to help reduce problems created by the crowds of people who gather daily looking for work.
"The training center, quite frankly, has to be where it would reduce the impact of the guys that are coming," said Harry Thomas Jr., Ward 5 Democrat.
Brentwood residents near the plaza are upset and want a solution to the problems, which include some day-laborers drinking on street corners, relieving themselves on walls and sleeping under porches.
One site is between the Home Depot and a Bank of America in the plaza, in the 900 block of Rhode Island Avenue Northeast.
Answer:
Gee,
How Funny. According to Bush, Kennedy, McCain, Feinstein et al they are living in the shadows. You mean to tell me they are really out in the open for all to see?
Put them out in front of the White House and the Senate so those idiots in Washington can see for themselves.
No I am not in favor of our government's look the other way, pretend you don't see them policies.
Not that our liberal elite care, but building a center for illegals to gather is aiding and abetting and in violation of the immigration act of 1986.
Maybe local law enforcement should arrest them, turn them over to immigration, and we deport them. Pretty soon they stop gathering on street corners and problem goes away.
it's wrong and sick.
No they should not!
It is a nobrainer. Nobody should be drinking and trespassing by passing out on other peoples property. It isn't just illegal laborers. It's everyone. I especially see it within the ghetto minorities in my neighborhood. Makes me ashame to see all that. I hate it when people focus on a small group of people and make it seem that they are the whole problem.
Ok now let me get this straight. We are building facilities for those who broke the law to get here, when those who are citizens and homeless get no help except the constant harassment by the police? Someone please explain this to me for I am missing something here.
Dude, you would THINK this lack of respect for public and private property would be an easily deportable offense. Apparently the laws excuse Illegals but don't you or I try doing that crap. We'll land in jail.
I favor mass deportation to Tapachula, near the border of Guatemala. That'll set them straight!

no, they should be deported
A day labor site is not the solution. If they are here illegally and are homeless, then send them back to where they came from. They are trespassers (sleeping under people's porches), vandals (urinating on people's walls) and loiterers (crowds gathering daily for work).
I don't dispute anyone wanting to make a better life for themselves, but don't do it by breaking the law or by trespassing and vandalizing other people's property.
PUT IT IN FRONT OF THE WHITEHOUSE!
No they shouldn't, and no other place should be provided for them to prevent it. Why aren't they arrested for such behavior like a citizen would be? I can't even drink a beer on my front porch and they can do it on street corners?! Why doesn't ICE officials pick them up? Isn't that what they get paid to do?
They don't do that. Those people in Brentwood are just racist
No I don't and Cartman where does that article say "illegal"or Mexican? you are really quite good at twisting things to benefit your own views. And the sheep follow you, not bothering to read the actual content of the article. Sad. Maybe the insinuation from your responses means the only men looking for Day Labor are illegal Hispanic... I thought they were all on welfare? I am so confused.
Gee, no wonder the illigals demand rights that are not their's, but just what happens when we have a recession, will the same groups then provide food, and shelters for this same illigals at tax payers expense
No, they should all be deported. It is a fact that most day laborers are illegal aliens (google it).
If law enforcement, and the govn't see these criminal just hanging out, they should be DEPORTED... Why is this such a hard concept to understand??
No,they should not be. I kinda thought it was funny though that BOA wants to fence in their property to keep them out. I thought they were big supporters and were gladly giving them credit cards without a SS#. I think BOA should open up their lobby for the day laborers to hang out in till some work comes their way.
