To the illegal supporters, my grand parents had to go through the imigration process to get here from scotland
Answer:
The Scottish waiting period is shorter than that south of the border, especially if you are a citizen. if you are resident it is still shorter than for a US citizen or permanent resident applying for someone from Mexico or the Philippines. So it is easy for you to pontificate about your gran's but for others it is much tougher
Example so you understand the dilemma of this broken system we have now
Philippines- man applies for his 21 year old son from a previous marriage
Same man applies for his parents to come to the States
IF he had wanted them to be here as permanent residents this year- 2007, he needed to have applied for his unmarried son in1996 for his parents -1985. If the son had gotten married - he would have had to have applied for him in 1985
Edited to add:
Your grandparents waiting for 3 months is not the average experience of most other people
link to visa bulletins which give you an idea of when people get the opportunity to apply for an green card
http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/bullet...
The dates in the bulletin only give them the ability to adjust their status after that - a process which takes an additional 9-12 months
Unlike your grandparents, these people do not want to be American. They only want to take from it and destroy it. They're arrogant and disrespectful.
First of all, I am not an illegal supporter, I support immigration reform, big difference..Stop using this language, it is just inflammatory. My parents did the same thing, filled out the paper work and became legal.I just want to point out, when your grandparents came, it was sooo much easier to come here legally. As was the case with my parents.I would like to see your grandparents try to come in now, do you think they would be allowed in???
Stop lying. They came on a ship and were admitted through Ellis Island. They didn't have to fill out boxes full of forms and meet impossible criteria in order to qualify. They came and walked in.
my grandparents had to write papers on manual typewriters, why should you be able to use a computer?
Same here, except mine came from Italy and Slovakia. But let me ask you...suppose you were lied to and you found out they came here illegally. Or maybe there was just an error in the paperwork discovered years later. If they were either accidentally or deliberately illegal, should they get out and come in again legally?
As a descendent of people who came through Ellis Island, I don't care about the illegals. They are not taking our jobs--our jobs are going overseas to people staying in their countries, and being sent there by American CEOs, if you think about it. I have no problem with immigrants sending money back home to family--that's better than you and me sending it to the Saudis through the gas pump and sweat shops in Asia through WalMart.
Do you have any idea how much your food would cost if it were harvested by Americans who would not do it for less than nine or ten dollars an hour? 75% of the vegetables and fruits you and I eat are picked by hand by people making two or three dollars an hour, we think prices are pretty high now.
My great great great ...grand uncle (Sir Issac Brock) defeated an American Army and kept Canada independent.
I had ancestors on both sides of the Civil War. My great uncle was an iron worker that helped build the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. His brother, my Grandpa, made Liberty engine cranks for thousands of fighter planes in WWI. My mother was the secretary to the Admiral the was the head of Naval Intelligence at the Pentagon in WWII. My father was the only survivor in a gun on a carrier hit by a kamikaze at Okinawa.
I'm an American and I belong here and I can't even get my diabetes treated (to save my life) in LA because of all the hospitals that have closed because they're over-run by illegal vermin.
You are not alone.
Tell that to my Mother in Law who has been waiting 5 years to hear something bud. She fills out new paper work every year as they request her to do. About 2 years ago we thought she was going to finally be able to finally come and visit so she could see her grand daughter being born, but she was stopped and detained at the border. She had her visa and all the appropriate material she needed to come over. I called and called the consulate in Mexico and never got a response. They wanted more money, we have put all hope aside. She has never been in trouble and has never even been here to visit. It is not to easy for Mexicans, and I have been down to our local INS, consulate, and immigration administration and was told flat out that she would probably never get her papers. How do you think that makes my husband and I feel? We have been trying and trying to get her over here legally, so she can seek proper medical care for her cancer. It's easier said then done is some cases. But thanks for letting me know that is can be done. It's a harsh reality for us to face that we can not do anything for her. We have run out of money and hope. So I can see how others choose to just risk their lives. I'm glad your grandparents had it so easy, and that they had the opportunity that so many dream about.
Obviously all the pro spanish language supporters want to twist the facts and say its racist not to allow these illegals in. Its not. Also, people from Scottland get in without a hassle (nowadays) for a very good reason. Less than 1% of their visa applicants are rejected due to serious crimes, or lack of education (needed for survival in the United States). The UK reciprocates this because we have similar statistics. We are peers. I don't care if you don't like it. You see we can verify that status of Scottish or any other European applicants because we share information. Mexico, even if we did share information, is so corrupt, that any data is unreliable. Also, in a modern world, we have no need for people who are illiterate in their own language let alone ours. I say continue with it. In fact lets have a 0% approval rating for 3rd world immigrants. Lets station the military along the board and let them shoot anyone trying to break into our territory. Then, lets have a registration act for all foreigners and make registration tied to all activities including renting an apartment. Every European country has that. There are immigrants in countries like Germany, but I guarantee they're legal. Have a nice day Mexican supremacists. If you ever try to take the southwest back, I'll be the first one with a gun shooting at you.
For someone claiming Scottish descent you sound like a bit of a racist to me. Thank goodness you aren't in Scotland anymore. It pains me to say that, but never the less it's true.
