What are some simple steps or creative ideas that people can take at home and at work to combat?

the immigration bill?

Answer:
Write, fax and call your representative's,tell them how you stand and how it will affect your vote in the future.Be loud be persistent and don't ever give up. I disagree it will not pass, you don't know the will of the people and some patriotic politicians are listening even if you don't think so. It only takes a few to defeat it and it will go down in flames.
Didn't you just ask this question? Call your local representatives.
Sit on your couch, turn on the TV to CSPAN, pull some chips and drinks, and enjoy how it gets passed.
mail your senator's and congressmen bricks to help build a wall!!!

emails and made calls already
I would say to start a campaign with friends, family and co-workers to contact your legislators and let them know how you feel. Put your minds together and see if the "common folk" can come up with a solution to the so-called problem. I agree that we need reform and need to "take care of business" but we need to compromise and find an equitable solution to the issue at hand. Reach out to those in your community that are most affected by immigration laws and the bill at large, ask for their input and what they feel is an adequate solution. People assume, not necessarily you by any means, that because someone is an immigrant that they don't have an intelligent answer to what's going on in the world. We as American's, again not necessarily you, are so fixed on assigning blame or cudos to the solution that we foget to take the time to work together to find it.

Each legislator has a direct telephone line, a direct email box and a direct address. Items do not necessarily reach the legislator immediately, but a bombardment of all of the above might put up a red flag that this particular legislator needs to spend at least 5 minutes addressing your concerns. All it takes is 5 minutes to get your foot in the door.

Use your rights as a current American Citizen to open up lines of communication for the current non citizens that help us run the country on a day to day basis.
when you see illegals call the police and report them. They won't do anything until it becomes so annoying that they have to.
i e-mail every Representative i can, i have been notifying places that i suspect employ illegals what my opinion is and i turn these places in, i talk to friends and family about doing the same, i sign every petition i can find against the bill, any other suggestions I'll gladly do too!!

In the words of Theodore Roosevelt

From the melting pot of life in this free land all men and woman of all nations who come hither emerge as Americans and nothing else. They must have renounced completely and without reserve all allegiance to the land from which they or their forefathers came. And it is a binding duty on every citizen of this country in every important crisis to act solidly with all his fellow Americans, having regard only to the honor and interest of America, treating every other nation purely on its conduct in that crisis, without reference to his ancestral predilections or antipathies. If he does not act, he is false to the teachings and lives of Washington and Lincoln; he is not entitled to any part or lot in our country and he should be sent out of it. (Theodore Roosevelt, "The Children of the Crucible" New York, Sept. 9, 1917)

And since our politicians are only acting for their own interest - I believe that they too are not entitled to any part or lot in our country and s/he should be sent out of it. So Americans are suppose to "treat every other nation purely on its conduct in that crisis, without reference to his ancestral predilections or antipathies."
