Honoring America......

Over the years, Americans have developed rules and customs concerning the use and display of the flag. One of the most important things every American should remember is to treat the flag with respect:
The flag should be raised and lowered and lowered by hand and displayed only from sunrise from sunset. On special occastions, the flag may be displayed at night, but it should be illuminated.
The flag may be displayed on all days, weather permitting, patricularly on nation and state holidays and on historic and special occastions.
No flag may be flown above the American flag or to the right of it at the same height.
The flag shall never touch the ground or floor beneath it.
The flag may be flown at half-staff by order of the president, usually to mourn the death of a public official.
The flag may be flow upside down down only to signal distress.
The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always carried aloft and free.
Illegal immigrants, will you respect this?

Answer:
Ah.. the flag.. glad you brought that up.. I have seen tattered flags, flags not lit up in the dark, and flags out in horrific weather. These were at US businesses, I hope when we learn to respect our flag others will as well.
WHO CARES!
They are already illegal immigrants. They crossed illegally to get here. Do you think they care about flag etiquette?

Also, you need to post that in other languages to really be effective.
And.. illegal immigrants can honor the country by getting back on the correct side of the border..
Like I give a dame!
There is one flag that can be flown above the American Flag. That is the Flag of the Chaplaincy.
there is a flag that can be flown in rain.is called a whether flag
I just got the new American flag plates in my State. This was a great question and with so many people who are risking their lives for us; I am rather disgusted by those who don't give a rats tiny butt cheeks about pride and nation. Sad really...
pfft like anyone (illegal, legal, or american) gives a damn about this... honestly..
It's NOT just the President who can order flags to be flown at half staff. Recently, we had a state trooper slain in the line of duty--(actually 2 in less then a year)... and the Governor requested flags in our state to be flown at half staff. I have also seen it happen for firemen as well.
Well there is one thing about the flag you forgot it should never touch the ground or be burned. Some of the illegal immigrants will obey that but others will not
I've found that the simple solution is to simply not have a flag. That way you're not constantly worried about dishonoring it in some way. Besides, in a wind storm the pole could fall and injure someone or damage a parked car, etc. Then you're looking at a lawsuit, and who wants that? Certainly not me. I doubt that illegal immigrants do either. If,however, you still insist on displaying an American flag, the best way is to buy a very tight t-shirt with a flag on it and put it on a very attractive and voluptuous woman, preferably with nothing underneath. God bless America! I salute you!
let me pick through your statements and then add my own opinion. in quotes is pieces of your question
''The flag should be raised and lowered and lowered by hand and displayed only from sunrise from sunset. On special occastions, the flag may be displayed at night, but it should be illuminated.''
^^^ the flag may be displayed at any time at night-solong as it is illiminated- not just on special occasions. raising the flag is done briskly, lowering the flag is done ceremoniously. if flying at half staff raise the flag briskly up the top of the pole hold for a moment then ceremoniously (slowly) lower it to half staff.

''The flag may be displayed on all days, weather permitting, patricularly on nation and state holidays and on historic and special occastions''
^^ you may fly an all weather flag in the rain- a flag made of nylon. the flag code was drawn up and came into use before flags were made out of nylon which started to be experimented with in the 50's.

''No flag may be flown above the American flag or to the right of it at the same height.
The flag shall never touch the ground or floor beneath it.''
^^^ the christian flag may be flown above the US flag on a ship during a sunday serman. and if the US flag is in another country then their flag would be in the most prominent position.
''The flag may be flown at half-staff by order of the president, usually to mourn the death of a public official.''
^^ the state governor can also order flags at half staff in their state.

then you ask. illegal immigrants will you accept this... it is not just illegal immigrants who disrespect the flag and not all of them do. Americans themselves disrespect the flag either deliberatly or accidental. I live in England but when i was in the States on holiday i saw countless COUNTLESS flags flying with frayed fly ends and even some whos seams had come apart completely. dirty flags flags that were displayed incorrectly, one eating establishment with their flag flying above the US flag, flags that were draped over banisters and trailing the ground. of course most flags i saw were perfectly fine.

the flag code is out of date and needs updating to reflect the new century rather than the start of the last one. and also needs to include a more clear guideline on how to properly retire flag instead of just saying simply to burn it. burn it where? and how? ive heard about so many different kinds of ceremonies and especially now as burning the flag is also a wayof disrespecting it and clear difference between the two needs to be set out in the flagcode.

jut remeber not to blame everything like this on immigrants and say theyre the only ones who do it because not all of them do. many will have a high respect for the flag as many americans do. its onyl a few who let the side down

OK i see ADDED COMMENTS. i dont think anybody has the right to disrespect the flag. i wish it would stop.but i know its not going to stop... flag burners (the ones who do it on purpose to provoke) should be punished for doing so. that is NOT free speech. it is an action which offends an awful lot of people including myself who is non american and im sure offends other non americans aswell and it does not do any good so it needs to be dealt with. this also goes for any deliberate attack on the flag whether it be putting it on the ground and stepping on it spitting on it or going to the toilet on it shooting at it writing offensive things on it.. etc etc.

mexicans who hang the US flag canton down below the mexican flag are also being extremely disrespectful... but this one is not actually HARMING the flag. it would bother me to see it but that one is a free speech thing. it may be punishable already because its against UN international flagcode which states that in times of peach no national flag may fly above another or be ecessivley oversized in proportion to another national flag.
I think people have forgotten. It is truly sad.I hope it doesn't take another tragedy to jog our brains...
