The D.R.E.A.M. Act?

The bill will give about 60,000 "illegal imagrants", a path to legal status. It applies to people who were brought to the U.S. by their parents to the U.S. before reaching the age of 16, and they must have lived in the U.S. for 5 years...They also must have good moral character. They must meet certain requirements such as completing at least 2 years of college or serve at least 2 years in the military. This will help many of them go to college and succeed in life.
I would like to know what is everyones opinion on the matter. And why?

Remember, these people were brought here by there parents. And there is no chain migration with this act. Meaning they cannot migrate family members!

Answer:
It sounds reasonable to me.Children in any culture don't have too many options available to them if their parents make a choice to do something. These kids have lived and acclimated themselves to America. How could we in good conscience make them go to a country that to them is foreign?
As soon as all of these programs and services are offered to and given equality to poor americans in similar living conditions and there are no more americans to take care of then you can talk to me about taking care of immigrants. In the mean time we need to close the borders and take care of our own.
Brought illegally into the country by their parents and placed ahead of citizens in line for college enrollment... Receiving in state tuition prices and in most cases a complete grant and put in line with citizens for decreasing positions in universities and colleges.

What do you tell all the citizens who lost their spot to an illegal immigrant oh sorry maybe in your next lifetime? There are only so many positions available each year at colleges and universities and I think those spots should be filled with citizens.. By the way the children of LEGAL immigrants who played by the rules, get nothing.

If you want a DREAM Act make it completely from charity and do not use taxpayers money to fund it, while your at it why don't you ask the children of legal immigrants what their opinion is.
I am not sure of the enforcement of this . Sounds good, but, knowing our congress they will attach so much to such a simple bill, it would end up being 60,000,000 and include parents and children and under the age of 100. Otherwise, until our borders are protected against any illegals, I don't want any other bills passed first.
The problem is that act is unfair to those who played by the rules. There are very limited funds available for financial aid for all students, so if this is enacted, because most of the would be former illegals, have little or no reportable income, they would be the first in line to have those funds
Americans first!
I agree 110% with this act. These kids grew up here through no fault of their own, and know no place else. They are American in all but status. I say give them a chance.

Rabid Frog -- I just had to point this out... you are quite ignorant when it comes to this... a free ride? NO. They still have to pay tuition and all the expenses. Where did you get the fact that MOST will receive a free ride through college?
I don't agree with the "2-year military service" bit. U.S. citizens aren't forced to join the army, why should people who will soon become U.S. citizens? I think the notion is a good one, but what about the people older than 16?
I feel bad for those kids. I mean, how could their parents ruin their life this way? And now, they have to up with up with people who pass judgment on them just because they are considered "illegal", even though that wasnt their choice. They are just following their parents. I mean, when you were two, didnt you do what ever your parents tell you to do? I wish people could be more understanding toward immigrants or less fortunate people. Instead of shouting out, "go back to your country!", I hope it's realized that they are people too.
So does that mean those of us that passed through a port of entry get no D.R.E.A.M .. as my daughter was brought here by me 3 years ago, and my son and my other daughter,,,,, but i dare say that i will still have to AOS for them, and pay the fees attached with those documents!! as atleast we had the decency to go through a normal port of entry... I think I just may hold a lil while longer and petition this D.R.E.A.M as I can scream discrimination as good as the next person ( that came in over the fence! ) ..
Like the post above me I believe you just discriminated against legal immigrants and citizens. I sympathize with the children who were forced to come here without a say but turning around and discriminating against our kids and the kids of legal immigrants is ludicrous. Universities and colleges are very competitive now and have limited slots each year and you want to insure 65000 of those spots go to the children of illegal immigrants, what do you suggest we do with all our kids who want a complete education? Did it ever occur to you that those 65000 slots will be 65000 American kids that will not receive a proper education because you want us to play unfair.
Generally speaking I am very much against this because I think free education is such a draw to illegal immigration 'for the children' that it is quite predictable this would continue to draw people. If it had a back date - they had to have entered before 1/ 2004 when amnesty was taken up in earnest, and it has to be proven by SECURE records like public school transcripts or immunization records through a public service (checkable) I might be ok with it, only because our government shares in the blame for the situation, today. However they would have to be excluded from any 'diversity' preference. To say they come in illegally and jump in front of our own kids in competing for college seats and funds is unacceptable. For the same reason, I do not think they should be eligible for grants or other government financial aid.

Going FORWARD I am adamantly against it and think benefits and jobs need to be forclosed for all here illegally (except emergency health care subject to deportation.) People say why should they be punished, but why should OUR children be punished, who AREN'T here illegally.

And those children have already had us pay for their education through high school at $10,000 per year per child, to use California numbers.
