I'm a "lefty" and I think it's a polar opposite from Ellis Island. When people came here to Ellis Island, not only were there no unneccessary processing fees needed to process papers to become legal immigrants, but there wasn't a lot of red tape slowing everything up. Nor were there these ridculous post 9-11 requirements put in place for those wishing to obtain a visa.
