Tech workers finding jobs?
I hear everyday about the need to import more workers. The senate is still trying to sneak amnesty into pending legislation. Bill Gates says their aren't enough technology workers while my research indicates their are more new American graduates than positions (minus the H1Bs granted for said occupation) in every skill group. It also indicates that 80% of these VISAs go to workers with no advanced skills - ie: skills we could easily train Americans to perform.
What is the word on the street?
(Senator Dick Durbin is expected to present the Dream Act as an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill - this would grant amnesty to anyone with 2 years of college.)
Answer:
There are plenty of US tech workers; Bill Gates just wants cheap pliable labor - he is directly responsible for H1-b's. But quite a few have left the field after training their foreign replacements. India now has a billion dollar software industry so that tells you how many tech jobs are available here. The only jobs are for the DOD which usually requires US citizenship. Since Americans trained their foreign replacements and built a billion dollar industry why would they require training?
I know we need more engineers. my company's already increased our engineering staff by 20% in the last 3 yrs.
We are not going to get tech jobs filled by the illegals streaming across the border today. They do not have those skills so that is crap.
I work for a new IT company, and it's part of my job to recruit local talent.
I've been using craigslist, jobster, and jobvertise among other websites, however, I've had little or no response at all from local people, maybe I'm looking at the wrong places, do you have any suggestion?
