Does the immigration bill prove that Washington is out of touch?

Yes! Considering that a recent Rassmusan poll stated that only 24% of the country supports the new immigration bill. Aren't politicians elected to represent the country??
The horrible state of our country is proof enough that Washington is out of touch.
It just proves that Washington has very little immigrants that're illegal. And that they don't give a rip about the rest of us.

Yes, the vast majority of Americans want less immigration legal & illegal.

I think they know what we think and those who want to pass it want to do it anyhow, then spin it afterwards. It isn't just bad, it's dishonest. As one of many examples they say it 'improves' border security yet it cuts the fence in half and cuts border patrol currently required by law to be put in place. Those who don't read it and trust them are being conned. That goes beyond 'out of touch'.
'Out of touch' implies that they don't know how much the American people want rational immigration policy and strong enforcement of immigration laws. They know. They just choose to ignore it because other interests (including thier own) speak more loudly to them than voice of the very people they're supposed to represent.
The Republicans business cronies want the cheap labor. The Democrats salivate at the prospect of 12-20 million new Americans (and thier descendents) who will if they follow historical trends, mostly gravitate towards the Democrats.
Oh yeah! way out of touch. thanks to Ted Kennedy in 1986 and Ted Kennedy in 2007. Just as people can do many things better for themselves than the government can do those things for them, illegal aliens could begin deporting themselves if they found that their crime of coming here illegally was being punished as a serious crime, and that they themselves were no longer being treated as guests of the taxpayers when it comes to their medical care, the education of their children, and other welfare state benefits.
Washington has always been out of touch with the American people. This is not the first issue that politicians has been out of touch with the American people.
They are completely disconnected and quite possibly on loads of mad drugs.
