Is this more like what you consider 'amnesty' to be?

Saudi Arabia just offered amnesty to a bunch of overstayers. That meant, come forward, and you won't go to jail. They still got deported.

I mean, think about it. Amnesty for library books involves returning them free of fine. I never heard of an amnesty that let you keep what you took and let you continue to keep taking it EXCEPT in the context of illegal immigration.

Maybe the pros are right, and amnesty is the wrong word.

What do you think?

Answer:
This sound fear, but what is the punishment for illegally being here. I thought we just deport them. We need to punish those who are here illegally, or they'll keep coming. I am tired of those who said its expensive to deport them. Its expensive to put people in jail, but the alternative would cost more. If we don't punish people for their crime, they will keep doing it, and worse it would encourage others to do the same. If we don't make a stand on illegal immigration, there will be far more illegal immigrants here. Deportation is a form of disinsentive, but I think we need something harsher to say enough is enough. THats the problem with the new bill. $5,000 dollar fine is nothing, and it would incourage others to come. I doubt any increase in funding to defend our borders, and knowing how America works, Corruption will take a bite, and politicians will reroute some of the money, and inflation would catch up with what monetary gain given to defend our borders.
For once I agree with something the Saudi's did!

What a great idea.
Well Dar,this is an interesting one. I guess it wouldn't be fully amnesty since they will not be returning what they have taken. What would a more appropriate term be since immigration reform is also not appropriate to the situation?

I also think what the saudis did was a good course of action and it would be in our best interest to do the same.
Sounds good to me , they at least have the right concept
Americans in general would love to send illegals back. However how many of them are willing to pay for it. I for one would but that doesn't mean all Americans would. As for the government doing anything about it, I wouldn't hold your breath.
the amnesty bill means, bring all your other 500 family members, welcome, welcome. Now, get registered to vote for me, cause I got you this free ticket to every thing free here. this way I can take all the hard working citizens money and give it to you. All I want is to be elected and I will open that border, scratch my back and I will scratch your back, until you make me really mad, but do not worry, no one can reverse your amnesty. A-alien, M- Mexico, N-nation protection to keep breaking the law, E- eat free, S-smile at welfare office T-take what you want for free, Y- you, can bring the whole country if you want to, no one will do nothing.
1,000 vs how many? 12 or 13 million at last count. The bill is not offering Amnesty, there is a fine, a human being is not a library book. The government is also keeping all the unclaimed taxes. I give up.
What is currently meant by "amnesty" is basically legalizing the status quo and doing some cosmetic manuevering for show only. After everything is said and done, all things will remain the same as now, only difference will be that the illegals will be made legal. Call it "Z visas" a "guest worker program" or whatever you want. The end goal will be the same - preserving the status quo as it is now by making the millions of illegals legal. They are hoping that the average American in too dumbed-down to notice the con game they are trying to slip over on us.

The Saudi plan is amnesty in the sense that by all rights they could just throw all of these people in prison, but instead are giving them a free trip back home. It is amnesty in it's real and proper sense, and it's a plan that I would agree with doing here in the U.S. I think the Saudis have the correct idea, and I would be willing to pay tax dollars to round up illegals and then send them back. Don't expect this to happen though - like I said, the government, following the wishes of Corporate America, The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and liberal left-leaning political activists, want to keep things as they are now with the only difference being that illegals are given legitimacy with no consequenses.
