You have to take away the benefits, too, particularly 'free education and food stamps for children of illegals'. Some think that sounds cruel, but look at it the other way, isn't it SO understandable that parents come for a better education and benefits for their children that so long as those things are in place they will continue to come?

We need to secure the border than initiate the enforcement of the laws that are currently on the book. They will need to ensure there are a few gaps in the fence because the traffic will tremendous going southbound.

here is how to solve the problem. 1. shut the borders down and let the border patrol do their jobs. 2. Set up large fines for companies who hire illegals without proper documentation. Make it a 3 strikes and your out rule. This would need to apply to companies both big and small. and finally, 3. Deport any illegal which is found to be here in the usa. Start by the ones who are criminals, and then just have people go around and deport the illegals.
If they want to come here they can.. but they need to leave now and come the legal way. I would be for changing the laws to make it a little easier to be a legal immigrant..

Your second point is better cracking down on employers. They come here because we have jobs for them. Take it away and most will leave. Also you are right when you have an open wound what do you do you try to stop the bleeding first than deal with the possible infection afterwards. The same thing applies here. Stop the flow first then we can start dealing with those who are in here.

Employers are the answer, mass deportation would be hard but possible... Increase penalties to companies and employers and revoke the business license of habitual offenders to send a message soon it will not pay to have slave labor. Borders must be secure also for the safety of the citizens and prevent further flow of illegals into the US - open borders like we currently have will cause more injury to US citizens by letting in those who wish to harm us. Also like someone mentioned above. NO government assistance at all, that is from the pockets of taxpayers - this includes education.
If we enforced our laws regarding employers that hire these illegal alien criminals (that are breaking our laws) they would basically deport themselves. If they have no job, they wouldn't stay! They have to work and if they can't work here they would look elsewhere!

Super secure ID like they are instituting in Europe would be the deal. Sure anything can be faked but if you can afford the $100,000 to fake the records and the ID well... you are smart enough to come legally. Also in these countries the checks and balances fo employment are in triplicate. No ten people using the same social security number like in the US.
Secondly the fines and penalties for hiring an illegal are so huge the business owner will be put in the poor house and usually go to jail.
If there is no work and no money nobody will want to be here. As an aside billions of dollars are sent south via money order. Imagine if you had to show citizenship to wire money? And even if you did there would be a limit to how much a person could send to Hispanic countries? Or someone would have to trust his pal to send it?

Unless and until our borders are secured the idea of any so called reform is insane. It is possible to deport them ,nothing in this nation should be deemed as impossible.The can be forced to leave of their own accord which would be the optimal solution . by illuminations jobs and other perks that they now enjoy they will need to leave in able to survive. Cruel you say I don't see it that way. i see millions of illegal aliens coming into my country and demanding everything for free as if they had the right. That's simply wrong and must be stopped.

Wickedlooks - That's not how it will work. First the Immigration agents will be going over criminal records of the most violent criminals. Immigration agents get to ask of the legal status of anyone. From there those that are illegally here get deported immediately.
For crying out loud, we as citizens can ask if they are here legally, but our local police can't. We can even put them under citizens arrest if need be. But we have no right to detain them. We can follow them, and report them to immigration agents or offices.
