I would say places like Hazelton will be better off. Don't get me started on quality of life...It's apparent to me that illegal immigrants have a negative effect. I know this, because they seem to love the town I live in... more and more move here daily. I've seen the negative effects with my own two eyes.
Hospitals are forced to absorb the cost of treating millions of uninsured illegal aliens. Native-born citizens and legal immigrants suffer decreased medical services and increased costs as hospitals pass the burden of treating illegal aliens onto other patients. I mean, they bring their children to the emergency room when they have colds so they can get a free bottle of cough medicine. It was so bad there that doctors started to refer to illegal immigrants as "Jose no pay" (Hey, they said it, not me!) They actually closed down and moved further away in hopes that the people in the city with no car and no means to pay a bill would stop taking their children to the emergency room for stupid stuff.
Education is a huge problem too. Taxpayers are spending over $7 billion a year to educate illegal alien children. That's enough money to put a computer on the desk of every junior high school student in America...they are taking away from American childrens education for them, and for what? Most of them drop out anyway. If you go past the high school during the school year you can see a lot of them congregating on the corners having a social event instead of being inside learning. THESE ARE THE FUTURE WELFARE RECIPIENTS OF AMERICA.
It comes down to this... If you place a lot of 3rd world citizens in an area of America, without assimilating them to the American culture, you no longer have an area of America. It's a 3rd world ward.
Let's also check crime rates, number of people on welfare also.
If all else is equal, Hazelton should have a better school district and hence higher property values, etc.
