Why aren't American kids majoring in the Sciences anymore?

American kids are majoring in the sciences despite what the anti-American media wants you to believe. Head over to your local university and walk into an engineering lab... you'll see many American students.
Most of the Americans kids who have gone into those fields, ones I know, are women and ethnic minorities. There are too many doctors and lawyers in my area. Can we send some your way? Too many engineers, too, and they are all American.

as long as their legal, we don't care! it's the illegals we have a problem with!! also legal immigrants and illegals do get tuition cheaper and more grants etc.
Actually math and science field degrees are up significantly across the board in the US, check the numbers. Women are entering the math and sciences in large numbers now also. It may take us a while to get to the amount that we need but we are on our way. My brother is a Civil Engineer...
Because the schools are too worried about test which are tied towards dollars and not teaching much math or sciences anymore. We pump out stupid students who can take a test but can't think on their own two feet.

Haven't you heard? We are a service industry based society. We have a president that denied funds for stem cell research while the rest of the countries around the world picked up the slack. Again, we have an economy that's based on how much junk you can buy from walmart and target; we idolize talentless teens on American idol while the kids overseas dream (and get to) Harvard and MIT. We have all these morons on blogs, on talk radio, on YA for that matter, that blast the so-called "liberal" colleges and universities in this country, like MIT, Harvard, Princeton, etc etc, making them seem less palatable . We've made kids feel like they are nerds for pursuing science and engineering degrees. And we have sports stars and rock stars and drug dealers and politicians and a president that only got where they are by money, gobs of it. No, dear foreigners, come to our schools. Come take advantage of our educational system. Come be our doctors, scientists, or get trained as such and go back to your country to practice. We created this situation. Come eat our cake. We have to get back to American idol and Lindsay Lohan...
Blame illegals, heck they are responsible for everything bad in this country...
The investment costs are about the same for a dentist or engineer , but the wages of a engineer compared to a dentist are vastly lower.
Is the market for these traditional jobs is shrinking as moves away from the US? Maybe new roles are being created which will absorb these skills?
Because is more important to teach kids that they should embrace the gay lifestyle, they should have the freedom to disrupt class because they can't sit still, why its important to discuss why we should impeach George Bush, and watch bogus global warming movies. We have gone away from the basics in education and are more driven towards indoctrination of socialist lifestyles and how to become one of the new age recipients of entitlements.
There are many American kids of Asian background majoring in the sciences.
The problem is that many don't perceive them as "American kids," but that's cultural bias.
Why makes something while you can buy it for less money.
