The Senate thinks they can do background checks in 24 hours. Are they delusional?
He has waited about 2 months so far for his background check. The FBI website says that it takes a min. of 16 to 18 weeks to complete the background check.
This piece of crap Senate bill says that they have to do the background checks in 24 hours. If the check isn't complete they must approve the person.

BUSH has told the American public that you can do background checks and issue Z visas in 24 hours...heck, my state can't even get my income tax refund check out in the alloted time.
And In Montgomery County illegal aliens are catered to as if they were the second coming of Christ. The cops do not protect American citizens from scams, crimes and identity theft -- they protect illegals from each other and tell the rest of us we just have to live with criminals on our streets and in our schools. All that matters here is being politically correct. I've never seen such corrupt, self-righteous politicians and police as these. This is what awaits the rest of the country if this law passes.
I would think that in this day and age of computers and the technology behind them that it could be done in as litlle as 24 hrs. The scary part about this is they could miss something. Depending on the level of security the person must pass through, in other words if it is for a permit to carry a firearm, I would hope it would take a bit longer just to be satisfied the person wasn't psycologically impaired.
Yes they can do a background check in 24 hours. Its a sloppy one that tells them nothing. Thats why their are tons of Psychos working for the government. They are basically saying we're going to give the impression of a background check, but we basically will wave everyone in.
In Massachusetts you go to the police station to apply for a gun permit I sat down and within 15 minutes she checked my whole life's criminal and phyciatric history on a state database so I think the Senate is pretty accurate it just a matter of the federal government and each individual state looping everything together within 5 years with the swipe of a card they will be able to see anything about you.
That's exactly right and there's no way they can do a proper check in 24 hours. If they don't get it done,the person gets approved anyway. We will have murderers,rapists and child molesters running rampant.

It is possible to run a basic criminal history on someone in about an hour at any police department with an NCIC terminal (the national system that combines all state criminal history records). That check is based on name, date of birth, and social security number. Obviously, the flaw in that system is the lack of verification of that information.
It may take a couple more years (and a little federal funding wouldn't hurt), but departments are beginning to get the ability to do on-line fingerprint checks. Obviously, once they have that capability, it will be possible to do 24 hour background checks.
In short, for today, the proposal is probably premature, but in a few years maybe.

Personally knowing a federal employee who has worked over 40 years for the government, I don't think so. It took over 35 years to get her background check. Obviously it wasn't that important for them. Every administration has new people running it and things change.
Yes they are delusional... They have had to put off the requirements for passports for the Canadian and Mexican border until September because of the system being completely laughable overwhelmed due to demands for passports and they expect to have background checks in 24 hours or else?
To the answer above (John D), are you seriously comparing one man getting a gun permit to 12 - 20 million illegal immigrants getting a background check?
