No. Your departure from the US into Mexico would not be considered significant. You would only be allowed the time left on your original entry.

be careful about doing this as you HAVE to hand in your little green form at your point of exit.............and then basically re do the whole thing when coming back in.at the point of Mexico entry they kinda look harder and are STILL looking for a return ticket [even open ended does NOT have Mexico as it fly out point] and can ask by what means you plan to support your self..........
