Adjustement of Status - Interview?
I would greatly appreciate if some of you who have gone through this process can answer my questions below:
* When can I expect to have my biometrics?
* How long after the biometrics do they schedule the interview?
* How long after interview can I expect to receive the conditional green card?
* What kind of questions do they ask at the interview?
* How can I prepare for it - e.g. do it need to put together some documents, pictures etc?
Thank you very much for your help!
Answer:
You will probably get a letter about the biometrics in a month or less. As far as the green card you should expect to wait close to a year.
I am unsure on what they ask in the interview. My wife and I should be having ours in the Fall.
Plan on waiting atleast two years.
When can I expect to have my biometrics? in about 6 weeks time
* How long after the biometrics do they schedule the interview? No direct connection. Overall time is about 8-11 months.
* How long after interview can I expect to receive the conditional green card? Stamp on passport right away if approved at the time of interview. Physical card can take 2 weeks to 2 years.
* What kind of questions do they ask at the interview? they go over the information on the forms and review the documents. Then they ask factual questions about where you met, how, when decided to get married, where you live, etc. Goal is to judge the bonafides of marriage.
* How can I prepare for it - e.g. do it need to put together some documents, pictures etc? You need to review the instructions to forms. it outlines what documents are required. If you are not the kind of person who can figure it out, then hire a lawyer. Pay the price for peace of mind.
There is no time estimate one can give on anything to do with the adjustment of status process. Much depends on the current time frames for your particular CIS District Office. Some currently can take up to a couple of years.
You need to document that you have a bonafide marriage sharing a common residency and life together, not one entered into solely for immigration purposes. Things such as Joint bank accounts, utility bills in both names, mail addressed to both of you, insurance, rental contract in both names, credit/debit cards, Insurances, photos, etc.
Example of questions you could be asked vary as well e.g.
What is your spouses favorite color?
What is your spouses favorite food?
What is your spouses birthday?
Questions that will assist in determining that you know your spouse. If you can't remember something, don't guess, just say you don't know.
