We have got to stop accommodating illegal immigrants. I work in healthcare and am ask on a daily basis if I speak spanish or punjabi. Nope and don't intend to learn. My solution is that if you want to obtain government aid of any kind, you must be able to fill out the forms, (written in english) and do the interview in english.
The other part of the solution is to stop this anchor baby nonsense. We are hearing a lot of debate about separating families. Odd that when these parents crossed the border coming to the US, they didn't mind leaving their children behind in Mexico. If a child is born on US soil to "illegal", they should be considered "illegal" too, not rewarded with lifetime welfare benefits.
If they start learning they can't get a freebie, they will stop coming.
Illegal alien-ation is wrong, and a federally criminal offense.
The government should leave it to the CITIZENS (remember us?) to shoot first and not worry about asking any questions.
I think that the government should step up and stop helping all of the illegal immigrents. If we went to another country illegally they wouldn't help us, give us jobs, food stamps, medical ins., and so on. We have enough people in the United States that need help from us. So, we need to help our own before others. It's just not fair that people that are Americans can't get medicade or food stamps because all of the illegal immigrents are taking it all. And if you do get those things you have to be down right poor.
They aren't hurting anyone by being here.
People want to complain but don't realize:
They pay taxes now and cannot get them back like we do, so that's extra revenue for our country.
They will do the jobs that many citizens think they are too good for.
Contrary to what many people say, most crime is not made up by illegal immigrants, but by American citizens.

I don't think it is fair to all the people who came into this country legally to change the rules now, How would you like it if it had taken you years to become an American citizen and then they changed it and gave all the illegal immigrants amnesty.
seal the borders, put employers in jail after the third time they hire illegals, when a illegal is apprehended, have them sign a document that states that no time will they ever be aloud to work or live in this country. Then after the second time and each time after that jail time, one year for each time.
Most illegal immigrants simply want a better life and are willing to work hard for it. There are a small percentage of bad apples, as is everywhere.
The root of the problems with illegal immigrants is not them itself, but the companies that employ them for a few dollars a day.
The Govt's way of handling this is a pretty good idea. If they grant the immigrants immunity and give them SS#'s it will put a lot of heat on these business owners that are committing fraud. I think this is a good idea.
If you lived in a 3rd world country, wouldn't you try to have a better life?? Think about it..
Government should enforce the laws on the books.
Congress passed a bill to construct a fence along the border in October, 2006. They have constructed two miles to date.
Illegal aliens are to be deported upon apprehension. Few are arrested and fewer still are processed through the criminal justice system due to lack of court funding and prison space.
Employers are supposed to check documents for each employee they hire. Few in several industries follow the law.
The US Government should bring home the over 200,000 troops we have throughout the world and have them protect the borders until they are replaced by fully equipped border troops of an equal amount.
We should also build large numbers of courts and temporary prison holding grounds to prosecute every single illegal alien apprehended.
We must also fine and jail employers who employ illegal aliens.
Illegal aliens would dwindle to under 1 million if all of these provisions, PROVISIONS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS, are followed.
The government should not indulge emotional reactions to an economic problem. We must stream-line the process for citizenship . . . we must address the issue of tax -based assistance without being draconian. We need to penalize employers who continually abuse the migrant worker program - perhaps have the employers off-set the price of education and medical . . . I don't think any American wants to see a bunch of starving Mexican children lining their neighborhood streets anymore than they want the Mexican drug trade in their neighborhood. It's about balance.
I think that illegal immigration is wrong.
What should the government do?
My opinion is that we should have a national identification card to replace our drivers licenses. When someone is born they should be assigned a national identification number and be issued a card with citizenship status noted on it. When someone comes to visit the US or to live here from a foreign country, they should be issued a card with their visa status. The card should be swipeable and any law enforcement officer should be able to swipe that card and check drivers license status, criminal history, warrants, etc., and citizenship/visa status. If the status is not current or otherwise lawful, then the person should be ticketed and ordered to an immigration hearing (or arrested, depending on the circumstances), to determine what should happen (if someone accidentally overstayed a vacation or some technical thing -- that's different than someone illegally coming here permanently).
As for the millions of illegals already here, I really like the idea of giving them an opportunity to come forward and legalize. Put them behind all those currently in line -- get them in the system in the meantime in order to make sure they pay taxes and other things that all residents pay -- it will help the economy and it is not feasible to take 12 million people and kick them out of the country. That would take billions of dollars and years upon years to do it, if it was even possible.
Once the national identification card system is set up, then it will be easy to quickly boot people out who overstay or enter illegally. If one loses their card, the same information should be retrievable if one gives certain info to law enforcement.
I think it's a crime, hence the work "illegal". For those who say "they pay taxes but don't get anything back", I say it's truly great that you want to exploit those people who you will also claim are "doing the jobs that Americans feel they are too good for". That just shows how truly compassionate you are. It also shows pure ignorance in light of the fact that illegal immigrants only make up roughly 25% of those doing those jobs. Who do you suppose makes up the other 75%? (That would be legal US citizens.) Furthermore, legalizing thousands of low-skilled workers will result in a high percentage of those people going on welfare and other government sponsored programs which are paid for by who? That's right, the tax payers. Those thousands of people will be a huge drain on our economy and if we continue to grant amnesty to thousands of people every twenty years it will just continue to get worse.
First, we need to get rid of Bush, who apparently wants them to bleed us dry. Then, the wall is a good start, but we need to go further, we need to deport all illegals found, & put them on a black list, & never be allowed back & shot on sight if they are found here again, no questions. Stop leting the families of illegals in. Companies who import workers should be shut down as well, esspecially IT jobs. There are plenty of IT personel here already, don't be bringing in more, because they are a certain ethnic group that you belng to. Put people who are already here to work!
We really should adopt Mexico's illegal immigration rules. Then it would be fair for all going both ways! (Like Mexico has a problem with people coming in illegally!)
enforce the laws already on the freaking books. They are only trying to pass amnesty for themselves, since they havent upheld their consitutional oath of office. I say throw them bums out who vote for this. They havent finished trying to shaft us, the people. If this didnt cost us all an arm and a leg I might not be so heavily against it. BUT...they cannot enforce a good number of laws they already have on the books, and look the other way for a large number of crimes such as identity theft will not be pursued no matter what if an illegal has done it. The WHITE HOUSE demanded no back taxes for the illegals. My thinking is they should be required to pay just like the rest of us. Those of us who are citizens who get caught not paying our taxes either go to jail or lose our houses and all we have earned. Ask Willie Nelson. This thing is unfair and unequal treatment under the law which is strictly unconsitituional. McCainand Kennedy are TRAITORS, amd so is anyone else who signs off on this turd. The thing that undid this bill was a provision that would not allow ANY illegal who had violated the law to be eligible for citizenship. Kennedy and McCain voted against the provision. The shamnesty bill is nothing more than vote buying, and they arte using tax paying citizens money to try to patriate the unpatariatable so they will vote for them. The republican party is finished. We ALL need to make washingston feel the anger and heat. Remeber folks, Ted Kennedy wrote the Immigration Reform Act of 1965 with the PROMISE this would end illegal immigration with tough new laws, strong enforcement, etc. Yeah right...and he is going to finally get it right what, almost 50 years later? I am pretty sure he promised mary Jo Kopechne he would come right back with help too. We all know how that turned out.
They admit NOW they cannot and will not enforce the laws they already have, how on god's green earth are they going to enfoce all these new laws? We have 600000 people in immgration backlog, and that isnt going to change with this bill. Where are all the new govt agencies going to srping up overnight that are going to be such incredible models of efficiency and perfection that no one can fool it? Security fromn this bill... Ha!We have been hearing lies like this since Reagan in 86, and Kennedy in 1965. Here he is, at it again. The border security fence is 1/3 of the already on the books fence that Duncan Hunter of San Diego got pased into law. How is less fence than we already have on the books going to make us more secure? Thjey cannot beat this fence btw...it so good that in San Diego-a former mecca for these folks is now a much safer and securere city. Duncan Hunter likes to quip that if anyone can beat his fence they sign them up for the olympics on the spot. It is that effective. 96 percent of the flow has been cut off. That is effective my friends. As for me, my senatorsw and congressmen are going to be gearing from me this morning in a rather heated fashion. I suggest you all do the same regardless of where you stand on this issue, which will mean the fall of America. If we can kill this damned thing once and for all, then we can MAKE them enforce the laws we already have. Dont let this pass. Make your voices heard, and kill this turkey before it eats us for dinner.
There is no absolute solution to this problem. The US can erect an "iron curtain" across its southern border; people will still find a way to circumvent it nonetheless. The only way to get a grip on this problem is to find ways of controlling and managing illegal immigration. As much as it pains me to find even a single item on which to agree with our present idiot-in-chief, his present immigration proposal with fines for illegals, temporary guest worker status, and ultimately, reapplication for entry from their country of origin: this isn't a perfect solution, but it's the closest thing to a sensible policy presently proposed by any of the aristocrats running our nation.
I think the government should secure the borders and not let any one come through illegally. Remember they are *Illegal*. And if you look at a lot of the kidnappings and murders lately, you will notice that a lot of the people doing it are the Illegal Immigrants. So I think the government should actually do something about it and not just ignore it. We should fight for it using the constitution just like we did in the Revolutionary war against England. We actually fought for it then. The founding fathers would be so sad to see all the work they did for our country gone.
