that by bleating 'legal immigration good, illegal immigration bad', you're setting yourself up for enforced silence on immigration once the Congress gives Amensty and blasts legal immigration to the sky?

Answer:
well this is a hard subject..its true that illegal immigrants and the stigma that goes along with it makes it harder for legal ones. i am going through a, so far 7 month process, just to bring my fiance here to get married..and he is italian with a phd. people dont realize how hard it is to do...the government, at this moment, can make the decision to not allow you to marry someone and live here. and in my opinion that is wrong...thereofore, if its this hard just to marry someone from a different country then try and imagine how hard it is to get into this country legally without knowing anyone here, not having much money and having no education..i imagine its much harder...and i think that people have gotten a bad opinion about immigrants from the ongoing debate about illegal immigrants. i think america is based on immigration and that it is a good thing in moderation..if the government will loosen up the qualifications for legal immigration and make it harder for illegal ones to work that will encourage people to do it the legal way. the biggest thing in controlling illegal immigration is strict punishment for businesses who hire illegals for $1 and hour...if they are mandated to pay at least min wage to all those working for them that will stop them from hiring illegals and start hiring legal people.
They are all immigrants and they just want to work hard to create a better future for themselves. President Bush is 100% right with his immigration bill, racist liberals are trying to derail it though.
Illegals give legal immigrants a bad name and with this new bill it will make it even worse for those who follow the law.
i will never be silent and that bill will never get passed, if it does, a see a civil war starting and i think in a way that's what bush wants!!
I don't see the the problem in being distinct on who is here legally versus the uninvited. As for the sheep reference, who are you following with this statement?
Too many times people talk about immigration but they don't make the distinction between legal and ILLEGAL. They try to blur the two and imply that they are basically the same. This is so far from the truth! I am so sick of it! WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL IS HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

I honestly think that amnesty will not be passed. While the Senate's piece of crap probably will, since they don't care what the voters think, the House is too afraid of loosing their jobs! Most Americans are strongly against amnesty. Many House members would, AND SHOULD, not be re-elected since the voters will be angry.

I used to support Bush. However, when he starts pushing this garbage and claiming (AKA lies) that it will be good for this country, I am so pissed off. They are even indicating that they don't care that voters are against it!

They should care since we are their employers and we "hired" them to do a job. They are not doing their job and should be FIRED!
Very good point. I knew eventually some wiseass would get the idea to just make them all legal and say "Problem solved!" People should come here legally, not be declared legal because they are here. And we already accept enough legal immigrants. More than all other countries combined.
Limits to protect our schools and services need to be the basis of any law. Those who came illegally and caused schools to fail and hospitals to close will be resented extremely if those consequences aren't reversed within the generation currently suffering failed education and eroded services. What would happen with an increase in legalization is that it would then totally become the politicians' fault. Now there are perpetrators breaking the law and taking what isn't theirs. If it were legal, it wouldn't be people's fault for taking advantage of the legal changes.

Only the politicians who vote for it and don't enforce limits would be to blame.
Yes I believe if its passes, legal immigrants, will be discriminated, along with the new citizens.
No I don't. Paying a fine means it isn't amnesty.
