Does legalization solve the immigration problem?

I just read an article on illegal immigration and came away with the idea that legal immigration is what takes American jobs. The illegals once made legal will then have access to all benefits that Americans have. They will be able to apply for education, better paying jobs (that Americans want), government services, loans and aide.

Answer:
Legalization will NOT solve the immigration problem. First, it didn't work in 1986- there are still immigrants from that amnesty debacle in limbo within the system- and it won't solve the problem now. The new system is so complicated, according to one report I heard the final document will be over 1,000 pages (that figures, it is being written by a bunch of LAWYERS)! And it isn't even finished so the public and the members of Congress can thoroughly and thoughtfully evaluate it.

The only true solution will be to secure the borders and ENFORCE current laws- i.e penalize those doing business with illegal aliens; deport captured illegal aliens.

To answer the part of your question about the jobs issue, it will be years after Congress legitimizes 12 million lawbreakers before any of them will be eligible to apply for benefits (social security, medicaid, food stamps, etc). And I personally don't buy the "they're taking our jobs" argument as much as phrasing it as "they're depressing wages." There aren't too many Americans jumping up and down wanting to do the manual labor that many immigrants perform.
O' brother I give up, why are American born so naive.

I suggest you read but stop thinking this is why so many people here have wacked out ideas of what is going on.

.
It hasn't the last three times it has been done. This effort has more gibberish than previous ones. No, I have no hope that this effort will solve any problems.
OK, one more time: Is it illegal if the law making the act illegal is never enforced? If you don't enforce the law, does it really make any difference if you leave it on or take it off the books?

It's just an opinion based on conversation with a dozen or so illegals, but they'd rather stay "illegal" and continue to enjoy the benefits with none of the responsibility than be legal and have fewer benefits and more responsibility.
No it doesn't solve it but I will tell you what it does do:

1) Provides a feasible way to be here legally, which.
2) Makes it easier for the government to track immigrants
3)Which, allows them to be penalized for not paying taxes and such.
4)Under the current bill in congress they will not be able to use public benefits such as social security or welfare until a permanent visa is issued.

And is it really so bad if they are able to receive an education. I think not. Many already have educations that they are unable to use. The best person for the job is how it should be. We have skilled doctors working in factories that could save your life one day. Think about that.
That seriously MAKES ME SICK IN MY STOMACH!!! American's are lacking in better jobs, so why the HELL would we allow MORE people, WHO ARE NOT AMERICAN born come over here for "better jobs".Americans NEED better jobs. We need to focus on helping the native born AMERICANS and stop trying to help other f9cking countries out! Why are we always the savior for everyone else!!??? What about our people.
To some point it will solve the problem, but the borders need to be secured so no more will get in. I totally agree with you, when these hard working people get legalized they will become more educated and get better jobs that Americans DO want!
Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
