Is it illegal to use my husband's oyster card?
i have to call my husband to prove that he's approved me of using this card,as i had left my card somewhere home.but the bus driver did not listen to me and insisted on calling the police as he thought it is fraudulent.The only way for me to get the card back is writing to tfl,which would take forever,by the time i can have it back,my travel card would be expired long time ago.
just want to know,is it illegal to use my husband's oyster card?

what is a oyster card? what ever it is and its not in your name..yes its illegal to use...duh.. buy your own oyster card
probably is illegal
no u cant use someone elses oyster card.. exactly for the reason that u could pay for a weekly travelcard and that is for u to use only.. not for anyone to use.. that is why before oyster u had to have ur picture on a photocard so u were the only person who could use it..
there also cases where people use a card and then pass it back to their friend behind to use again.. it is to stop fraud.. do u see?
that is why u have to fill in ur name and details when u register for the card..

sorry have i waffled.. let say that when u buy a travel card it is for one person to use only.. only the person who bought the card can use it.. so only way to ensure that, is to have ur details on the card so only that person can use it then only one person is using it..
so no u cant use ur husbands card cos it has details and only he is entitled to use it regardless of who paid for the travelcard!
a letter from husband will make no difference.. cos then he could still use card one day and u the next on the same travelcard and that is illegal.. travelcards are non transferable..

If Oyster cards contain personal details like name then maybe. I am not sure but I do know one thing, the fines for using a card without enough money on it are extremely high.. ask the CAB. They will put you straight.
Where I live in the East Midlands, Stagecoach buses encourage you to pass on your Mega Rider weekly ticket for other family members to use. You don't need photo id with those. They say it will keep cars off the road and people on public transport.
I guess each local government and bus company has their own rules.

i can see it being any problems if you got husband to agree to it i let my partner use all my credit cards in all different shops with out any problems . all you got do is get him to write anote saying he gives you premision to use it and keep it on you just in cse it happens again.

Yes it is illegal, you should have a joint card if you wish to use each others , it is only to protect you and your husband , you may get a reimbursement if you get a letter off your husband saying he had given you permission.
Did the Oyster card contain his photo?
1. If so, then yes, the driver is right, it says on the application that the card is NOT transferable.
You know it is your husbands card but how does the driver know you didn't just steal it from someone's wallet or purse?
If his card had been stolen, then you would be grateful and thankful that the driver turned it in.
2. If the Oyster card was bought as a general purchase then it says on the promotional pamphlets that the cards ARE transferrable. You may loan your card to others as you would an anonymously bought travel card. The cards - not containing a photo - need to be registered so in the event the card is stolen, your travel card or money can be replaced. Registering the cards make them traceable as does the photos.
Not if they say its not, its not your name and its not the bus drivers job to know who is who and what is what in your family life, if its not your name on the card it can be and should be denied. Otherwise the card holder can turn up later and dispute.

just buy your self a oyster from a sweet shop it cost £3 then you just put how much you want on it
