How to immigrate to canada?

ok my soon to be husband is a canadian citizen and i am not. i have been to soooo many websites about canadian immigration and all have been fruitless. we've called immigration and they say that unless we are already married i can not immigrate there. has anyone been in this situation? what can we do? we are determined not to let this stop us from being together, but what can we do??? (and by the way: he can not move here either)

Answer:
To immigrate to Canada, you have to obtain Permanent Resident (PR) status. To do this, first you have to get married. It's easier if you come to Canada as a visitor, then once you are here, get married. Then you can apply for PR status as a spouse from within Canada. You will be able to apply to extend your visit and remain in Canada while waiting for your PR status.

When you enter Canada as a visitor, you can only bring what luggage a tourist would normally bring. You can not move all your belongings to Canada until you obtain your PR status. Also, while you're waiting for your PR status, you may not be able to work in Canada. It can take up to a year to receive your PR status.

Or you can get married in your home country, then remain there while your husband returns to Canada. Then you can apply as a spouse from outside Canada.

Please join this Yahoo group, most of it's members have married a Canadian and are going thru the PR process. They can give you advice and support as well as walk you thru filling out the forms.

Good Luck!
our border agents don't have guns. just make a run for it! By the way, why do you want to live in this cold country anyway? it was minus 35 Celsius here this morning. I went to pee outside and now there is a weird-looking yellow icycle standing about 3 feet high.
Ask Michael Moore.
If you are US citizen you can enter Canada with no visa requirements just need your passport and can stay there for 3 months legally but can't work then you could ask for extension it is up to Canadian authorities to give you the extension or not. If you marry the Canadian man you will be eligible for the green card. If you are not marrying him anytime soon you can apply for immigration based on your work skills if you have college degree and significant work experience you could apply for it. Also, if you are loaded you can get to Canada based on investments you make in Canada as long as you employ Canadians and invest more than 800k Canadian Dollar.
So I would suggest that if you are going to marry him soon just get your passport and go to Canada for 3 months and just marry him and he can apply for greencard for you. As long as you stay married for I think 3 years to 5 years you can apply for Canadian citizenship if you like to do that
