Why would an immigrant choose Canada over the US?
Answer:
They wouldn't because it is too far to walk.
I am not that familiar with Canada, but I know certain Canadian provinces has royalty checks from their oil projects in the tar sands. Canada has less people than the United States which means more space to live in. The Canadian dollar is more safe than the U.S. dollar due to geo-political instability. Canada's government has better fiscal sense in that they are a net exporter and do not have the budget problem's America has. Canada provides national healthcare, many Americans cannot afford expensive healthcare visits. - hope that helps.
Canada has more space and cleaner air.
I've got to be honest. I don't know why they would choose Canada over the US, unless they are trying to come over legally. If they are in the US illegally, they get free housing, health care, welfare, higher education. There is no other country that is as willing as the US to give away all of their resources to people other then its citizens.
What does Canada have to offer?
I honestly don't know much about the Canadian Immigration laws, but if they are different from the US, and are more or less easy on people wanting to come to those countries, then that would be a thing to focus on.
Also, how much those laws are enforced or not enforced. I know the US is not currently enforcing laws that are on the books, sadly.
you would think with all the benefits Canada has, more immigrants would go there instead of the US, but I guess Canada is more selective on who they let into the country, where in america if you can sneak across the border and clean a toilet, you're welcome here.
Canada is higher up the human development index than america so there for the living standards in Canada are on average higher than in the US
maybe Bush. If most Americans don't like were America is headed, that may be a red flag.
do some research on these. Terrorist target, cost of living, job opps, low crime, housing opps. clean and air water, population. etc.
America is a target right now, for terror. Canada isn't. America looks foolish in the eyes of the world right now thanks to the Bush administration. Canada doesn't have that problem. Canada is just as free, and cleaner, and more open-minded. It's less populated, but more taxed. There are pros and cons to both nations, but being a citizen of both, if I had to make a choice, I'd say Canada. I live in the US, this is the home of my children, so I am not going anyplace, but...If I had it to do over, I would reside in Canada without a doubt.
Ok, first they get welfare when they first come to tide them over until they find a job. Government puts em up in hotels if there's no sponsor to take them.
Canada 's health system, free health care whether or not you're a citizen, wouldn't you want free health care if you'd never had any?
Canada's multicultural policy, Canada has the reputation of being pretty tolerant, although a recent ses survey says immigrants don't always think that, especially if they go to Quebec. Generally if they move to Vancouver, Montreal , Toronto, they can find their own enclave neighbourhoods, where signs are in their native languages, restaurants serve their native food and if they don't want to , they never have to learn english or french because their neighbours speak the same language they do. I.E. Little Italy, Chinatown, Little VietNam in most metropolitain cities.
Immigrants will do the jobs many canadians now refuse to do, so they see Canada as a place of opportunity.
Canada is better regarded in the world, sorry US citizens, but it's true, we don't have the ' cultural' baggage the US brings with them. That little maple leaf is respected all over the world.
Canada has free health insurance! Low cost medications. A lot of countries have incentives for having children-Germany for an example. maybe they have better jobs! I live near Niagara Falls so we have a lot of Canadians that come down to ski.
I think security against terrorism is an important factor nowadays.
i would have to say because we are a peace country, less judging and free willed people. our land is beautiful and of government are good at helping people outside our country!
canada as said by the United Nations is the best country in the world to live in. not only is canada much cleaner than the US but their health insurance is practically free
They will not have to adhere to Freedom of Speech in Canada. That House Bill HR 254 is currently being sponsored by Sheila Jackson-Lee a Democrat From Texas that wants to limit what you can say about it in the United States!
Canadians already have criminalized Free Speech as Hate Speech that is hurtful to others about the subject or anything sensitive under European Union Laws and want the same thing done here!
There are only about the same number of people in Canada as there are in the State of California. They feel the need more people and they are VERY eager to accomodate decent people as new citizens. They don't make it too hard on you.
They are far more into helping their citizenry with health care (such as it is) Many Canadians come down to the USA to get health care as the Canadian system is slow, awkward and you can die while waiting to be seen or treated.
Much more clean environment and they are keenly aware of this. America on the other hand is decimating it's land by allowing too many immigrants in and it is causing social disaster on manylevels including, education, health care, infrastructure failure streets/highways, and in the areas of crime that is immigrant associated. Also, for whatever reason, they do not do a very good job of enforcing borders or immigration. Some would say they are too slow in immigration process.
America has a much higher crime rate. America is a more expensive place to live generally.
Well, the average immigrant would surely love the stifling politically correct atmosphere, the long waiting periods to get the most basic health care, the 8 months of winter, the ridiculously high taxes to pay for that socialized health care.
On the plus side, there is a great love for hockey and Labatt beer.
I can't imagine why we don't all move north!
Truly free health care (including preventative) and much less competition from other immigrants driving wages down. (See Juan Carlos's post, above.)
The quality of public education in vastly superior in Canada.
Because Canada is the greatest country in this world.
you have to think of the special things in Canada.
