So if you do the math, there are actually fewer poor Americans than there were, just more poor Mexicans in America. Poor Americans are actually moving up - just being replaced more than 1 for 1 with poor foreigners who hope to likewise move up.
Whether you think it's good or bad that they come, can't we all agree that while more poor people coming here might be an indictment of Bush's border policy, the fact that they outnumber 3-1 the increase in poor people is not an indictment but a testament to the success of his economic policy?

There has been many things that have happened since bush became president. I would say a few much bigger things other than illegals that have contributed to the economy.

More Americans are losing jobs to outsourcing and downsizing as well as illegal immigrants displacing Americans for less pay. Americans therefore move on to other jobs, making less money or comparable pay, not necessarily putting them all in the poverty range but reducing their wages immensely from what they are accustomed to. The quality of life is reduced. They don't pay as much into the Federal Government to sustain the Federal programs (less pay, less taxes to pay), the assistance programs will get less money, suddenly our Federally funded systems start to fail, run out of money. It's a downhill run from there for our economy and our way of life.
More poor people invading our country illegally, more poor people on welfare, means more money needed to supplement those programs. The money needed to pay for the poor is reduced by Americans having to accept work for less pay. It's a lose/lose situation.
