I've been here for 17 years with employment card, I applied for assylum in 1990, I applied for job too, but nothing happen, my son is 8 yrs. old, and I'm afraid to be deported to Guatemala, I have an app. w/uscis soon to review my case, what could happen?
Answer:
Bush and Kennedy have offered the Leave No Illegal Alien Behind Act. You have no worries.
First, you'll be interviewed on the case by an Immigration officer. They are usually very nice, but make sure you refresh your memory about what you described in your application. You may also want to get some updated information on the conditions in Guatemal right now.
If the officer wants to deny the case, s/he'll usually send you a notice giving you an opportunity to dispute any problems s/he saw in the case.
If that doesn't win it, it will be denied and referred to Immigration Court where you will have an opportunity to make your asylum claim again.
