Legal or Illegal?

I am a proud imigrant of this great country and unlike the subject today, my family came here through Ellis Island and obtained citizenship legally. Ever heard of that. Obviously not. I will never dispute the fact that my family migrated here from Germany and Italy. But they went about it getting a legal right from the government to be here. I guess what I'm saying is, sure, I'm an immigrant but unlike the millions in this country, not just the hispanics but the other nationalities as well. My family came here and did it the correct way. Not breaking any laws to do it. I've seen my family's name in the book at Ellis Isle so I know what I'm talking about.. Do you?

Answer:
Do people like No Child Left Behind? Because the same arseholes who gave you that (Bush & Ted Kennedy) are now giving you Leave No Illegal Alien Behind and telling Americans to bend over and do it like they do on the Barney Frank channel.

I do. Unfortunately our congressmen don't!

I have no issue with immigrants...it's the one's who come here illegally that I have issue with.
Small difference. When your family came through Ellis Island, "legal" meant flashing a passport, giving the name of a relative, and waiting in line for, oh, about a day.

Mine came the same way

Edit: woops, not accurate. They actually didn't need a passport until 1921

Edit again: do we give a thumbs down if the answer is inaccurate or if it's an inconvenient truth?
of course i heard of ellis island u jackass. i live in new york im not a **** hermit.
I think I can understand what you mean. My family came from Mexico around 1902 I think. My family has all the paper work from when my family came.
Yes, actually, some of my own relatives' names are in there. Others came with the original Pennsylvania Dutch (well, we were German, but not everyone was Dutch.)

We all came legally.

And the latest of our newcomers (the ones written in the Ellis Isle book) donated land with their neighbors and raised a school and a church with their own hands, then passed the hat for the minister and teacher.

The school in North Dakota still bears my mother's maiden name.

Immigration didn't always mean subsidies.
Yes, my great great grandfather, Elijah, came from England.

That's the past. The Western way of life will soon be gone. We did a good thing with our countries from the US, the Commonwealths and all across Europe and now they want a piece of it, yet they STILL insult us for who we are. Go figure.
Well i agree with you, you and your family came over here and legally became citizens and i applaud that, however the millions breaking the law is totally insane. i can't believe our goverment is letting them away with that. or maybe i can,,, i dunno
So that would have been what 100 years or more ago.. I think you can let go of the whole immigrant thing... Your family helped build and shape this country for what it is today... so why wouldn't you consider yourself a US citizen first... instead of an immigrant... they did what they did so that you would be born here as an American Citizen.. not as an immigrant
You are so right! Those illegal immigrants, uneducated and unskilled laborers, do not add anything to American society.

So, when are you and your kids going out to the fields to pick the lettuce, strawberries and grapes?

When are you and your kids going to clean all of the office buildings, including the latrines?

The money may not be good, but at least you can work the jobs the illegal aliens were taking away from you and your kids.
Uh yeah, I do. Maternal side entered country as indentured servants from Germany to Kansas, circa early 1800's. Paternal side immigrated through Ellis Island from then Bavaria, early 1900's, they were Jewish escaping certain death.
Any person who takes any sort of a stance on the immigration issue should have some knowledge of their own personal history prior to spewing empty dialouge based on tripe.
I am also a first generation legal immigrant, but unlike you I understand why illegal immigrants don't do it the right way. Bah, you're not even a true immigrant, you were born here raised with the faulty educational system that only shows one face of history. It's not like you would know.
I cannot STAND these arguments about how the illegal immigrants are working jobs that nobody wants! This is a classic "straw man" argument, and the problem has NOTHING to do with this. What's really happening is that these immigrants are working for WAGES that nobody wants. If a strawberry farmer (for example) started paying 12$/hour for his labor then I can GUARANTEE you would see some Americans line up for those backbreaking jobs!

Stop lying, people. THERE IS NO LABOR SHORTAGE!!! Only a shortage of employers willing to pay more than slave wages.
Well its much easier before to immigrate in the US legally. European immigrants immigrate in packs and thousands before. Well today is different, if you were to immigrate here in the US you need to go through a lot of hurdles and spend alot. The process is very long, very frustrating physically, financially and emotionally. If you are born here in the US, dont take your status for granted because a lot of people sacrifice everything just to step on this land.
Mexicans do not care about doing it the correct way! Nor do they care about American laws, American citizens or the American way of life!!
They would rather come here by sneaking into this country, disobeying laws, stealing jobs, hurting the economy and cause problems after problems!!
They come up with excuse after excuse of why they are not citizens. To makes matters worse they DEMAND rights and amnesty!! They want the US to change just because they b*tch and complain. It never occurs to them that they should change their ways, since they are in the US now.
Why they can't follow the example of millions of immigrants, like our families did, is the question of the millennium!!!
