The problem is that they are incredibly backlogged. If you check with USCIS for their processing dates at the Service Center (uscis.gov) you will be appalled at how behind they are.

It's such a shame that those of us who are taking the time, troubles and expense to immigrate legally are suffering because of those who could care less and believe they should be above the laws that affect the rest of us.

The problem is ignorance
I've read that 'the administration has already notified legal petitioners that [visas] are on hold' so they shouldn't be surprised by the Bill in the Senate wiping out all filed before 2005.
I don't know if that applies to yours.
If they cant do the job they should be disbanded.
The problem that most people on both sides of the issue refuse to recognize is that our immigration system is profoundly broken. If our next president does not give it serious attention, our national identity is at risk. Immigation issues are far more important to national security than what is going on in Iraq. Moreover, people like yourself who are trying to go through the immigration process legally wait endless days, weeks, months, years, even decades to even find out if their applications will be accepted or denied. Thousands of the "illegals" in this country are in that status not primarily because of anything they did wrong, but simply because of a completely inept bureaucracy that hasn't handled immigration decently since the LAST amnesty.
We need a president who understands that immigration must be controlled, and that amnesty is a boondoggle, but also that law-abiding citizens who wish to immigrate properly should be given respect and decent treatment.
