Hypocrisy?

I don’t mean to be rude or anything but as a Native American, I see posts on people saying how they fought hard for this country. How their family goes back to the 1700’s etc. Just because your family was oppressed in Europe did that give them the right to oppress the First People of the Americas?

Answer:
I'm part blackfoot indian and I will tell you that Indians are some of the most racist people in this country(I know a half-blood with blue eyes that visited her tribes' reservation for the first time and was spit on before someone decided she had Crazy Horse's spirit...) and they have completely glossed over the actual history of their ancestors. Most individual Native American tribes had lived in the areas they settled for under 200 years. They were not conservationists. They burned forests for game. The Blackfoot Indians got their name because they used to torch the prairies in order to run entire herds of buffalo off of cliffs. They would then take only the choicest cuts of meat and leave the rest to rot. They were not peaceful. Many tribes feared being captured by their enemies because they knew torture awaited them. Torture that often involved putting burning sticks in your ears, nose, and rectum. Aside from the fact they had no country or borders to begin with, they weren't even the first ones here. Ever hear of Kennewick Man?
9,300 years old and Caucasian(actually looks a lot like Patrick Stewart). Don't lay any poorly conceived revisionist history on me.
Get over it, I thought you guys were extinct for a while there. When are you guys gonna do something major to let us know that you are still around?
I don't understand your point.
No, but they got it from each other the same way. Every country got their land the same way. Only after WWII did countries begin to frown on 'land wars'.

However, we, and you, built what makes this country worth coming for, and we subsidize the better life they want at our expense.

It does not make things 'right' historically, but those coming illegally have no stake in that. And none of us here did

(I am not familiar with Tigua. Is that from within the continental US territory? Because nativeness to some other parcel of land carries no weight here.)
Hey, we all have a right to this land. Just because you were here first, that doesn't give you a right to everything before the rest of us.
Even American Indian tribes are immigrants from Asia.

Nobody is "native" in North America.
Study your anthropology a little further and science will say that Native Americans are First Americans, or First Canadians as they put it in Canada. They only migrated here before whitey. Also, it wasn't all white peoples that came here tried to oppress other races, mostly the english that were in service of the crown. Then the colonies stuffy old white guys adopted the attitude. It doesn't give them the right, but they were enabled to do so because of their solidarity compared to the fractured groups of tribes, a kind of divide and conquer. They were already divided so conquering and taking were prime.
I think that Native Americans were oppressed and abused/mistreated. I hate that the culture of the first peoples of this land have practically become extinct. Speaking of another comment I read, sure the Europeans came and brought invention and innovation, but did those truly make this country "better"? Look at all the issues we are facing now: obesity, heart disease, cancer, pollution. There are less and less wildlife and nature preservations; we're dependent on oil and electricity which are now breaking us financially and killing the world around us. Coming back from that tangent, I completely understand and agree with the hypocracy of the situation.
I'm mexican but i agree that native americans are the true americans... I hate it when white poeple think that they are the true americans, because the truth is that they are not! Just like all the other immigrants, they came the same way and for the same reason, to look for a better place to live.
I got news for ya people. The U.S.A. isn't the promised land that it used to be. You might want to searchf or greener pastures, (e.g. Canada, Australia, etc.)
You know it's funny that you ask that. I live in Arizona and believe me we have a ton of reservations here and everytime I pass through you know what I see?? Dead animals al over the so called roads that have there. Nice brand new trucks parked right near the trailor and always a dozon or so drunken Indian's walking around, (never seen that before, huh?) Oh, yeah, and a free check every month with no rent due for their trailor's that they live in. The white man has oppressed your country, huh? Just drive to any local reservation and take a look at oppressed look's like once in a while.
oh OK... honey live and learn... my ancestors go back all the way... I can't help how my ancestors treated the Native Americans, it wasn't right what they did to the Africans (during slavery), it wasn't right what they did to the "Witches of Salem", it wasn't right what they did during the Civil Rights movement ( and that was only in the 60's) - not everything they did was right... but in the end this is a great country that we have today- and regardless of mistakes, horrors, or crimes that my ancestors did, they still made the country it is today.. and for that I am proud... the mindset of people in this country have changed over time... and my ancestors did fight and die for this country so that WE ALL would have this great country. so forgive me if I have some respect for what they did... It's good to learn history so that you don't repeat past mistakes.. it bad to dwell in history because then you never move forward

edit: After typing what I did... I was thinking it might sound like I said my ancestors were the only part in making this country.. and that's not what I meant... I was just defending what they did... everyone made a contribution to this country.. Native Americans, Africans, all immigrants... from years ago (like Ellis Island) today... everyone made contributions to make this country a great country for all of us.. and I think to use the mistakes, crimes, and horrors that they did over time.. downplays the major contributions to the Country we have today... I think it's disrespectful to them to say we are ALL immigrants.. because if you are an American Citizen you are not an immigrant.. you are an American Citizen
Tigua, see I didn't know it as other that Tiwa. But when people speak about fighting for their country, they're not speaking about the land. I'm from NM, I think you are too, I know lots of patriotic native americans. Oppression was the norm of the day, the one's that couldn't were the ones oppresed. Native Americans did it with other tribes too, so just cuz your ancestors happened to be on the losing end. it was the norm of the day.
