I am a legal permanent resident who will be eligible to become a US citizen in 3 years. However, I want to get married to my fiancee before then. My issue however is that he is a convicted felon, will this fact effect my eligibility to become a citizen. Mind you, I did not and will not use him for my legal status everything was done prior to him via my parents; we paid the lawyers and filed on our own. My only issue is given my clean record will the fact that I married a convicted US felon effect me negatively when I apply for citizenship.
Thanks in advance!
Answer:
your status is in no shape or form effected by marriage. you will simply, once the time comes for your adjustment of status, attach your marriage license as another supporting document.
don't be put off by hare brained people - you would be surprised to know of how many people have suffered a felony conviction.
good luck with your marriage.
