You read it right. It takes three misdemeanors (including DUIs) or an agravated felony to make them ineligible for legalization, gang membership is fine if they sign a renunciation, and committing non'agravated' felonies don't count.

Yes you are correct. The rapists, murderers, drug dealers, etc. also can challenge their deportation with a taxpayer funded attorney. And if they show that their life or a relatives life will be negatively affected by the deportation they can possibly stay here.

BTW illegal aliens are far more likely to commit felonies. Our prison populations hover between 15-25+% of the population being illegal.
