Why would/should anyone oppose the building of the border wall?
But who are Pro-illegals or the Mexican Government to oppose what a nation's government decides what to do with their borders?
Answer:
I oppose it for a reason already mentioned; it's a poor way to spend federal money. The tax cuts of 2001 and 2002 gave the federal government less money to spend, and this trickled down to the state and local levels, as a lot of financial responsibility was transferred to those governments. So college tuition costs escalated sharply, and many services offered at the local and national levels have dwindled away.
I find it appalling that many people are willing to have their taxes increase to fund an initiative such as a border fence, but not to assist the elderly, improve public schools, or advance our transportation infrastructure.
I also oppose a fence/wall because if someone is willing to walk hundreds of miles across the desert to get to the US, 25 walls wouldn't stop them. Let's focus on getting these people legal and making/keeping them productive members of American society instead of kicking them out.
It is the simplest way to slow down illegal immigration. It will not stop it. The reason people want to build it is because It is the most obvious thing to do.
I don't think any Mexican would object to the US withdrawing from Texas, California and other Mexican land occupied by the US in the 19th Century, and building a tall and wide wall on its new (old) border.
i wonder how much better this country would have been if there were walls at each coast before whitey came over?
The U.S. does not want to "insult" Mexico which is why their government gets away with so much. What other country would tolerate the nonsense that the U.S. government tolerates? Not even Mexico tolerates what we tolerate.
I live in the country your are talking about, America. Gives us your poor and humble masses as this land is your land, this land is my land. You obviously have a lack of humanity as you dispell the myth that equality of globalization can only be established by removing land barriers.
I oppose it because it is a waste of tax dollars. Many tunnels have already been found on the border and many more would be built in short order. It would be harder to spot people crossing if they were underground than it would if they are above. If our laws were enforced then this would be a moot point.
Are they still even considering that?
Tunnels will be used in it's place not to mention they can still come by sea.
A fence like the one Israel uses to stop Palestine suicide bombers works great. But to build something like that here in the USA it would cost about 15 billion dollars. I don't think America will want to waste 15 billion dollars.
Because it's more of a symbol than anything. It says, "Keep out,"
but the jobs and the benefits here say "Come right on in!"
THAT's what we have to fix. Besides, most illegals in this country have overstayed a visa, not hopped over a border.
Anyone that doesn't want the wall doesn't care about US security! Sure it won't STOP it but it would be a deterrent.
President Fox was upset because it "wouldn't work." If it wouldn't work, what was he so upset about. He was upset because it WOULD work. The new Mexican Pres. compares it to the Berlin Wall which is stupid since we are two separate countries.
The people that are very vocal about not wanting it are the ones that have something to loose when it does work.
My son says hooah!
I oppose it because it's just a waste of money and that it isn't going to solve anything at all. Remember when Germany had the Berlin Wall built to separate the country into West Germany and East Germany? Even though it was one country, as opposed to a border wall dividing two different countries(the US and Mexico) being divided, the purpose was to keep East Germans from defecting over to West Germany where they would be free to express their political views; if a border wall were built between the US and Mexico, the purpose is to stop the influx of illegal immigrants from crossing into the US. In both cases, the Berlin Wall didn't stop thousands of East German from attempting to defect to West Germany just like building a border wall between the US and Mexico wouldn't stop it's citizens from coming over here for a better life.
True. I want to see it built so that I can watch and see if it's a success or not. If it's not, I can laugh and say 'Told You So.'
