It's always good to hear from our Irish friends but allow me to take issue with your statement view.
These illegal immigrants have created a tremendous burden on the American economy. The majority are poor but that could be overlooked as I believe we do have an ethical and moral duty to humanity. The welfare and social costs are conditions, even though expensive and an added burden, that take a back seat to more immediate and dangerous considerations. Sadly, these people are violence orientated and quite volatile by cultural standards. Their genetics and violence prone culture give them a history of rebellion and passionate reactions that over come their reasoning and sound judgement. They feel insecure and have issues of low self esteem that cause them to withdraw into gangs and pursue illegal activities causing the crime rates to escalate. A society must evolve at a pace consistent with their culture and until such a society is "ready" to make progress with a firm desire there is little that can be accomplished from outside interference. This is a problem we face here in America with our present political administration and it's involvement with the Middle East. There is no "dead level" to humanity. Some have reached greatness in intellect, art and science while others are closer to the brute and exhibit like characteristics. By coming to our country legally shows an "honest" approach and speaks of that person positively. To "sneak "in also reflects but negatively as that is a crime in itself so logic as well as law determines criminal intent and social irresponsibility.
No wonder Europe is committing slow-motion suicide while being swallowed by Islamists.
