Do you think there has been a dehumanization factor in the immigration issue?
Is it because they do not recognize that these immigrants are people?
Answer:
How is legal immigration "dehumanization"? I see no problem with legal immigration. People make personal choices and are accountable for those choices and stand by those choices.
As to illegals - that is something else. By their own words and comments, they want to totally not be responsible for any of the choices that they made when breaking laws - thus they by such actions actually 'dehumanize' themselves because they claim no personal responsibility or accountability for those choices.
Who really is making this "dehumanization factor in the immigration issue" when looking at the facts? Many prefer to ignore, but such doesn't change the reality.
"I'm all in favor of keeping dangerous weapons out of the hands of fools. Let's start with typewriters."
Frank Lloyd Wright (1868-1959)
Yes, the legal immigrants are people, and the illegal immigrants are "criminal people"..
Homicidal maniacs, child molesters, and Paris Hilton are people, too. What's your point?
A popular movement during the 1920s succeeded in drastically restricting immigration to the United States, culminating in the Immigration Act of 1924, which featured expert testimony to the United States Congress on the threat to American society from the assimilation of more "inferior stock" from eastern and southern Europe.
USA has a history of racial segregation
This is a slippery slope.
On one hand: (parts of) Mexico are terrible places. Running water is contaminated, the government is corrupt, and a reigning machismo (ignorant) attitude breed all kinds of abuses. It is no surprise that people are frustrated with a third world country like this.
On the other hand: Is this America's problem? While the illegal's plight is certainly understandable, our involvement only goes so far. In my opinion, employers here need to stop hiring illegals for slave wages. This is an insult to citizens who have went the legal way, for seemingly nothing. We cannot hold Mexico's hand and adopt their entire country. Their government has to play a more active role in this instead of printing PAMPHLETS detailing how to cross the border illegally.
Illegal immigration has caused more crime (dramatic in some areas, like mine), an even more broken healthcare system, and worse education for children. While there is the human side to look at, you cannot ignore facts and statistics.
3 of my 4 grandparents and father were LEGAL immigrants.
Do you think illegal aliens realize the United States is a country with it's own language, traditions, laws and culture, or do you think it's so easy for them to break-in because they see it as nothing more than a big piggy-bank? Do they see us as people?
When an illegal alien goes to a hospital emergency room, receives thousands of dollars worth of care, and walks away without paying the bill do you think it's he realizes American taxpayers have to pay? Do you think it's because he doesn't recognize that we are people who need to take care of our own families and not him or his?
These people left their families and broke laws. They start new families here while continuing to break the law. When we question why we are wrong?
I assume you are referring to ILLEGAL immigrants...not immigrants. All law breakers are people, too, but they are law breakers nonetheless. And perhaps you need to consider that Americans are people too. I'd like to see politicians and activists care a little more about US. OUR people are being hurt by illegal immigrants. While I feel for them on a personal level, let their countries worry about them. I'll worry about our own people...including the legal immigrants.
Is there a dehumanization factor when talking about murderers? Rapists? Of course there is and illegals are criminals. If you can't do the time then don't do the crime.
God bless the LEGAL immigrants! All of you guys who want illegals to roam our streets are nuts! Yes, we look down our noses at illegals because they are criminals! If you went to Mexico or any other country to live and work, you would need all kinds of permits and legal papers. Actually, my beef is with our government that will not enforce immigration laws already on the books!!!
Last time I checked we are all human beings with the ability to tell the difference between right and wrong.
We are people born with free will and with that free will comes the responsibility for making decisions soundly, aware that as human beings we are going to answer for those decisions.
In regards to illegal aliens- that means they willfully chose to break the law very aware of the consequences and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law just as they were aware they would be when they entered this country illegally.
No, the human factor is still there- people just keep trying to remove the responsibility from these illegals - they are responsible for their circumstances in regards to their current situation in America- they entered this country illegally of their own free will- hopefully they will be drug out of America against their will.
ADD: It is not your right or anyone else's right to enter a country without legal documentation regardless of the reason .
Every country in the world has laws regarding it's immigration policies for a reason- It is called Sovereignty.
Poverty is no excuse for lawlessness.
Illegal immigration is a problem to many countries in the world. We are focused on sending them back but not in solving the issue. Illegal immigrants are Human and it is a Human issue. It doesn't matter which country you are and they are.
Instead of spiting on their face, sit down and think, why are they coming here. When we are having expensive dinner, in many country, many people are starving. Every human being in this world deserves decent living, education and employment. What we do we enjoy every thing and deny even a loaf of bread to them. Mean time in the name or terror and Weapons of Mass destruction we went to war with other countries and spending billions. Why don't we do some thing to these people who come to our shore with a reasonable dream. If we can't be helpful at least we should consider them a human being and give them the due respect.
In a neighbourhood we can be happy only if all our neighbours are rich like us. If we are rich and every one else is poor, how we going to sleep with out worries.
Share the pain and share the burden. We don't have to carry a cross like JESUS. We born once and die once. If you consider youare a good human be soft spoken, be polite to them, be cosiderate. If you want to deport them back to their country, do that, it is your right, but remeber, you don't have any right to humiliate those unfortunate illegal immigrants.
When we born as human we did not have any border, we did not have any country, we did not have any government and we did not have any law. Every thing is created by human to help other human to be happy.
When people talk about illegal entry and legal entry, I get a question in my mind. Is there any body having a blanced mind, Tell me , " How did America invade Afghanistan and Iraq, do we have any legal right to do so? Our entry in to those country is considered illegal by Iraqies and Afghanians".
When we as a country can do this in the name of our protection and freedom, what is wrong, when an individual enters our country with out our wish. After all they do it in the name of their protection and freedom.
Humans can be criminals. Wanting civilized laws obeyed isn't dehumanizing people. No one is wanting anything but to have our laws enforced and people safely deported back to their country. What's "de-humanizing" about that?
It should not be a dehumanization factor at all. So many LEGAL aliens have worked so hard to become a part of our society and have earned the right to be here. Many are law abiding and outstanding citizens of our communities and are welcome here.
The issue I have with legalizing illegal aliens is this: It is so disrespectful to those who have come here within the boundry of the law to allow illegal aliens to become legal without effort. They came here illegally...what does that tell you? They already disrespect our laws. It is a slap in the face to those who worked so hard and came here honestly and legally.
There's no dehumanizing factor.
What things have people been saying that you think are dehumanizing?
Any idea how insulting it is to attribute these kinds of thoughts and motives to people who disagree with you on an issue.
Undocumented immigrants. Give me a break, please. They're criminals. And cowards. Instead of staying in their own countries and working to make them better, they run away and come here and break our laws and then demand rights and privileges.
Is that dehumanizing? Even if it's true? I know they're humans. Only humans can be criminals and cowards. Only humans would have the nerve to break your laws while taking your welfare, and demand rights while flying your flag upside-down.
