Since when do you have to live in a certain country or hemisphere to practice a particular religion, or perhaps you forgot that people came west to free themselves from religious persecution. Also as for religious beliefs, for Catholics when you take sacrament you are eating the embodiment of Jesus and his blood.....that does not make us cannibals. You are way off base and you should not take bits and pieces of a religion you know nothing about. It was Bin Ladden who said 72 virgins that's not in the Quran. If we ban the Burka then we should also ban crosses and yarmulkes.

It is a culture very different from our own. There are lots of good books written by western journalists who have spent their lives in the middle east who try to explain the mentality of the Arab people. One thing I find interesting is how they manage to be western in the west, and go back to being traditional muslims when they get back to their places of origin. I've heard it by word of mouth, seen it portrayed in movies, and read about it in books and magazines. Arab business man goes to west, drinks alcohol, wears a suit, treats women with respect, marries one from the west. Same arab brings western wife back to Arab home country, preaches the evils of alcohol, makes wife cover her head, walk behind him, stay home etc... I just don't get it either. The worst case I heard of was a professor of western culture at a University in France who did that to his wife. Don't get it.

Muslims can have up to 4 wives. In Islam, you can marry a woman for a period of time, too. You can sign a contract and marry a woman for a week if you want. They DO believe that when they die as a martyr, they will be given 72 virgins.
Some say this is a religion of peace. You can't prove that to me.

I find it amusing you're asking this question. Early settlers to US were Christians who fled "Christian Europe". Any persecution of any faith, will generate a migration movement, and countries with the most tolerance will become preferred destination.

If you actually read the Qu'ran, it says the exact opposite of what a lot of these fundamentalists believe in. It does not demand women be completely shrouded, but just demands that they dress modestly, as should men. It gives equality of inheritence rights and equality under the law to women - opposite to what is seen in Sharia law and although it says that martyrs will go to heaven, it also strictly bans killing of the innocent and murder - these are heinous sins (so suicide bombers who kill the innocent will not go to heaven).
The Qu'ran also says that Muslims should treat Jews and Christians with the same respect that they treat other Muslims, because they also worship the same God of of Moses and Abraham that is worshipped in Islam.
In Islam, men and women are held to be equal under god. The Qu'ran says "Men and women who are Muslims, men and women who are believers, men and women who are obedient, men and women who are truthful, men and women who are steadfast, men and women who are humble, men and women who give alms, men and women who fast, men and women who guard their private parts, men and women who remember Allah much: Allah has prepared forgiveness for them and an immense reward". (Koran, 33:35) - there is no distinction between the sexes.

You forget that most of the Muslims in the West have been born and brought up here. And don't believe any bull about being rewarded for killing. According to Islam, everyone is rewarded for their deeds, and giving up your life to protect others, the only allowable kind of war, gets a great reward. I think we can see the stuff about virgins and houris as symbolic of the reward - no-one can have a true idea of the nature of heaven or hell.
Thats correct. You can have 4 wives in some countries but not all. They do agree about the 72 virgins but some don't think you have to kill yourself in order to get them.

i read all of the answers and rated them. i could add more, but i think you have enough to make up your mind. the best advice: read before making judgement. do not only hear things from one source and then decide that's all the truth. There are millions and millions of muslim around the world, there is something wrong here if really islam is reduced to what you are saying it is. Ignorance is what causes the greatest harm of all. Remeber that crusade started because people thought it was right to consider evil anyone that was not christian. do you really think the crusaders followed what the bible preached (love, peace, compassion?). What arabs do in their culture and in their life is not 100% islamic. if you want to know about Islam, read for yourself. ask questions to clerics. have you ver talked to a muslim person? i am sure not. For churches to spread in Africa prior to colonisation, how many had to die? do you really think that Jesus had asked all of that killing in his name? NO. People chose to disguise their own interests behing holy religions and do what they wanted to do.
