What do you guys think of unions?

Answer:
Im in a union and I think unions are good if they are organized properly which mine is not,the problem is unions are big supporters of amnesty as that would give them more money to soak in and they know that these people that are sneaking in would gladly pay the weekly or monthly dues just to have a job and will keep thier mouth shut about everything I see it all the time these immigrants dont even get the concept of union so they fold to company demands because of thier lack of education lack of skills language barrier and general lack of caring that union members had in the past
Interesting I only hope our unions do not follow suit in regards to repealing the law mentioned in the article, this being if I read it right. But for the time we do not have the problem that USA has. At the moment (and I just double checked) our unions are fighting to keep Australian jobs for us, if you're interested check CFMEU (construction, forestry, mining and engineering union) and run a comparison.
The unions are meant to protect their members rights at work, something that our govt. is trying to stop big time. Without them we would not be enjoying the fruits of our labour and being able to spend time with family.
Safe, hell no but I am already a victim of industrial relations.
I am a proud member of the UTU and former member and local executive officer of BCTGM and United Steel Workers. Unions have their good points and their flaws as does almost any organization. However a solitairy worker has little voice against an employer no matter what size it is, with a union that voice is multiplied by the voices of the membership making it more likely to be heard. A union is only as strong as its members. When members band together changes happen. Unions have forced tremendous gains in working conditions, wages and other compensations over the years. It is a sad fact that unions are not as strong as they once were but with out them we would be working in conditions we had no control over for considerably less compensation for hours and hours as dictated by the employer and we could be discharged on a whim rather than for just cause.
this is not a question...............oh_hell
