I've known quite a few but I used to be pretty close with 2.
My uncle Elmer came to America from Sweden. We was born around the end of the 19th century. He was a very simple man. He was a laborer. He liked to carve wood. He carved picture frames in the evenings as a hobby. Some of the things he did with wood were brilliant. He build a box for his sharpening stone. There were no gaskets, he only used wood. It held water without loosing a drop. Also, he and my aunt had a creek that ran through their property. They kept a garden that covered about 1/2 acre. He planted on mounds and raised rows. He built a wooden gate/dam on the creek and in the morning, he would open the gate to flood the garden. In just a few minutes his garden was watered. Same thing with that gate on the creek. Never leaked a drop.
Also, I have a friend named Oscar. He is first generation from Mexico. I worked with him in a machine shop second shift. During the day, I was going to school for computer science. He worked a second job rebuilding car parts (starters, carburetors, etc.) He's probably the toughest guy If ever met. Looks tough, too. Like he might bite your ear off if you say the wrong thing to him. His arms are huge especially the extensors. He says it's from picking lettuce when he was a kid.
My parents are legal immigrants.
We behave like the normal family, we talk, we fight, we laugh together, we bond, etc.

I know many legal immigrants who came to the USA and are productive members of society.
I do not know any of the millions of illegal immigrants who are here taking benefits they do not deserve. I can't really get to know them since they make no effort to learn English.
I see illegal alien criminals every day. I can't interact with them because they don't speak English.
i volunteereda at a parishing house the other day and there plenty of dirty mexicans who didnt have their green cards

yeah, me. I legally came to this country over 20 years ago. I'm all for legal immigrants, but those damn line cutting illegals really piss me off.
My grandmother came to this country (legally) when she was 3 years old. Her family had to stay on Ellis Island until they were found fit to enter the U.S.
The signs in the town her family moved to said "No Dogs or Irish."
They were from Ireland.
We got along very well.
My Grandparents were LEGAL immigrants, we have taken on the American culture, and embraced it, we play football, baseball, WORK, and have served in the U.S Military to defend our NEW country ! WE LOVE IT HERE, WE ARE "AMERICANS" NOW AND PROUD OF IT ! They also arrived from Ireland to be greeted by signs that said "NINA" (No Irish Need Apply), my father went on to Medical school, and became a Doctor !
I know many immigrants. Some are good friends and others are passing acquaintances.
It's the same with people I grew up with and went to school with.
I find that if I reach out to them, most will reciprocate as is the case with anyone we meet.
i know lots of immagrants.illegal ones too.i go to school with some some of my friends are some. i communicate with them every day you can go anywhere in the united states and find one its not that hard

If you get down to the nitty gritty, if you are not Native American, you are from immigrant stock.
Are you one, from a non English speaking country who is just beginning to learn English? The correct way to ask your question is ..... "an" immigrant rather than "a" immigrant! Furthermore, your question seems somewhat irrelevant and immature. What would make you think that interactions with immigrants would differ from interactions with anyone?
I know a few, yes. Living in eastern Ore. we have mostly Mexicans that come here to pick crops or help out on the ranches. The majority are very nice, family oriented people who work about twice as hard as most of us citizens. Those who are here without their families send money home and keep in close contact with them. The people whom I have had contact with do not abuse the system and just want to make some money and go home.
I know many both legal and illegal. Most are Mexican but there are others, Russians, French, German, many diff. Asians. The list goes on. They are half our population you know.
For the most part they are very nice, hardworking decent people.
Problem is there is too many of them.
Our population is exploding with new people from other lands. It is not our native born children but folks that come in legal or otherwise.
We can argue night and day but the true problem is there are too many people coming into the USA for us to be able to deal with finacially or otherwise.
Sure, we can get crazy with the illegal Mexicans but we need to stop or limit our population explosion before we kill ourselves off in the process. America can not take all the poor of the world and give them the AMerican Dream opportunity.
Has nothing to do with being against immigration. The problem is not with the immigrants really, its with the numbers of immigrants.
Put better yet, it's with the number of people coming here from abroad. If AMerica engagede 500,000 immigrants a year and had it's norm growth rate there would be a slight raise in population over time.
The current rate is that decade our population doubles legally. Add the illegals to that. This WILL KILL AMERICA OFF.

My family (Dad & his folks) have been regarded as an Immigrant one since 1948...
They were told they will come back in Three Days or so...
Since then, they were named Refugees...
Dad got married...e were brought into this life....Dad passed away...I AM ON MY WAY TO FOLLOW HIS STEPS...
Still have not returned home since...
We (My Dad's & Mom's Breed) are scattered in 6 different countries, and will never ever go back home...
We are still immigrants...All of us !!!!!!!!!!!

i know several. we talk, hang out, have cook out. go to each others house. and yes they are legal.
well I don't know them personally but I do see them everyday at work. (I work at Home Depot)
My great grand parents, migrated to the US, but, they did so legally, and did well for themselves, and our family. It seems you are are attempting to get answers to, maybe, illegal and undocumented immigrants?
The fact is almost everyone in the US have has some kind of one on one interaction with a immigrant on a daily basis..i.e. Chinese Restaurants, Jewish Deli's, Korean Liquor Stores, or a fish market with Japanese retailers...now who are we talking about, these fine hard working legal and documented neighbors and friend of mine.
OR are you talking about illegal immigration, and why so many opposes it, let's be clear.
Probably many of the readers here had (or have) grandparents or parents who were once immigrants in this country and unfortunately history often repeats itself because many immigrants who came here in the early 1900's were victims of discrimination in the work place, were targets of the Ku Klux Klan, and faced various other problems.

Legal immigrants I interact with like I would with anyone else, illegal immigrants I ignore give them the cold shoulder really go out of my way to make them feel uncomfortable to let them know what they are doing is wrong and people that are citizens will not accept them as equal. There is a big list of people that want to immigrate to this country legally that have something to provide ,that want to help build this nation let them in and keep out the scum
