I don't think it's greediness but more a desire to have a better life for themselves and provide a better future for their families, two things that may be close to impossible to achieve in the Philippines considering present conditions there.
That's why you will never be president.

There must be something fundamentally wrong with the governmental constructs that leads to hopelessness. Is the economy supportive of entrepreneurs like US or Hong Kong?
I feel sorry for your country. I love the Filipino people. Your government has to start market reforms. it will be hard at 1st. you need a hardline leader to turn your country around. You can do it ! If Vietnam can do it, you guys can !

most your people dont how to unite and organize a country...unfortunately, this is because all of the bad circumstances that could have occurred for a country, did for philippines...the colonizers, the geographical location and structure...sad but true...communism would probably be the best form of government for philippines...but that will never happen now...its good to know there are still some citizens like you who really do care though...its going to take conscious people like yourself to change the minds of the rest of your fellow countrymen so that your country will not have to rely solely on overseas remittances to support the economy...filipinos are not "pacific islanders" because their ancestors were predominately malaysian...filipinos are asian...
The reason why Philipines keep losing its best and some of their not so great people is because they have no hope of succeeding in their own home. COrruption steals from those who have a little of something and people will never get ahead. Like the guy above said, a radical change in government that would alow its leader to deal with corruption in a harsh way would help, but most of the time the leader would get corrupt with so much power.
ithink most of the people has no choice left but grab the oppotunity abroad simply because they lost hope in our system of government that is currently running the country, which in result slows down the economic progress.
as an individual, we can help by being a responsible and good citizen. obey all laws whether its just a simple traffic regulations. start on your own. be a role model so that your sons and daughters and the next generation will follow. as result, will have good leaders in the future, no corruption, no dirty politics.
