How many years ?
Answer:
G'day,
Have you applied on the course you want to study in? Have you decided on which institution? What level you want to study in?
Currently, on completion of your study in Australia, you can apply for a permanent resident. As a permanent resident, you have almost all the rights of a citizen, except the right to vote on the general election and a few more. After holding a permanent residency for 2yrs, you can then apply for citizenship.
There are changes being done by the Dept. of Immigration (DIMIA) to take place by July this year, so this information may not be true by the time you have completed your study. Check with DIMIA again when you have finished your study.
Hope this helps. E-mail me at mikegun@studentfirst.com.au if you have any further questions abt study in Australia. Good luck on your study and welcome to Australia :)
Batako.. DIMA just changed their name to DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship).
Unless you're fairly well off you would start off with a study visa. That would give you entry to Australia and allow you to study and do 20 hours of work per week to pay bills and such.
University costs a fair especially if you want to all of it in Australia (my recommendation would be to do part of it in your native country then come over and do whatever you can in Australia).
Getting permanent visas in Australia works via a points system. You need to meet certain criteria and you can get points on certain skills and trades that you have.
