Would there still be racism behind the immigration issue if...?

The majority of illegals were coming from a non-Latin American country but instead coming from a country were the inhabitants are mostly non-colored, share a culture similar to the U.S. shared some of the same customs, spoke a language you might be familiar with even if they did not speak it well, etc.

Would there still be racism behind the issue if the situation was like this?

I'm asking this because every time I have a discussion with somebody regarding the immigration problem, there is always somebody saying stuff like 'wetbacks' 'beaners'.

I understand the majority of illegals are coming from Latin America where the culture, language, etc, is the opposite of what I said above, but what if it was like what I said?

Answer:
Review the political cartoons of Thomas Nast from the turn of the century. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/thomas_nast...

The same thing was going on them. It was the Irish that were coming to this country in droves then, and ironically, the debate was framed in very racist terms, as if the Irish were a different race from all the other white people in America. Thomas Nast drew cartoons depicting the Irish as if they were chimps.

So to answer your question, yes. They would still use racism to justify their arguements. The ole "us-vs-them" tactic.
Probally not as much.
Spanish is the second most well known language in the US. I'm not sure which country would provide a language we are more familiar with than that.

This is not a racist issue, anybody who tries to make it one does so because they cannot come up with any valid arguments to support their position.

If there were 30 million illegal Russians here.. the focus would be on Russian immigrants. If there were 30 million illegal Chinese immigrants.. the focus would be on China. It's about numbers.. not race.
The *only* racism in this issue comes from the illegals and those that support them. They're racist, because they demand that their skin color should grant them immunity from criticism.

Their failure to assimilate and their ignorance of our laws and our people is what really gets me mad. Also, the numbers really bother me.We are WAY overcrowded be it any race.
I don't think it would matter. People shouldn't come to our country illegally and expect/demand to be treated as a citizen and have American rights while they are here against the law. It doesn't matter to me what color, race, etc, they are. They shouldn't be here illegally. Also, I think we are missing the fact that there are millions of illegals in this country of all races and national origins. It's not just people from Mexico here illegally.
The illegals are making it more of an issue by claiming racism to get privileges. Then they spew racism at us, and ignorant people take the bait and reply in kind.
Do you think I would be happier with a Jamaican, Canadian or German if I still couldn't find a job but had to pay for their food, housing and medical care? Even if I cannot pay for my own? Do you believe the word "illegal" is simply a word, or does it have any meaning to you at all? Climb down off the color tiles and see it for what it is; it is against the law. Those who came before did the legwork, learned the language AND the law, and worked to be here legally. The "illegals" cannot be bothered, therefore, I cannot be bothered to help them, and it is my right as a LEGAL citizen.
I doubt if it's 'always' or 'everytime', and besides, race is not an issue. The color of one's skin doesn't matter. The language issue does, because its not right that someone who speaks a language that's not readily known to steal into a country and then expect all the citizens to accomodate him.

America is a predominately English speaking country. If one is serious about living over here the very least they can do is to learn the language, not burn our flag, and be more respectful. Mexican, or hispanic, immigrants have been coming here for a very long time. It's only been in the last few years that they are flooding our borders and over taxing our welfare system.

What angers most of us is that many Americans, like me, work full time. Both me and my husband work to support our family. We own a modest home, a couple of old cars that barely get us around, two sons in high schoo, and still barely get by. There are no government programs for us, except for Arkansas kids first for the boys. My husband and I have no health insurance, we don't get food stamps or public assistance, yet we pay taxes. When one works day after day, and struggles to pay bills, then you see people in line at the grocery store who pay with foodstamps and they can't even speak english, makes one a bit mad.
The Germans started world war 1 & 2 . Do you hear of any hate directed towards them. If a blue eyed blond hair German and a brown skin hispanic moved next door to you who would be more suspicious ?

With your additional details, I can say, the hate has always been there." Illegal" is just another excuse.
First, Hispanics are not a race no matter what La Raza would like you to believe. And yes, some are racist thinking that Hispanics are a race are racist. But in the end how much poverty are we going to import before this country goes bankrupt?
I could not agree with you more. I can not believe how many racists in MyTend.com . You ask a question and they get all crazy. The worst racists are the ones that think that they are not. And some idiot told me that 4,000 child molesters were coming from Mexico... what propaganda. It is total racism.
The fact of the matter is that there is a massive divide between Latino and American Culture. There is no way to conceal this either and it is wrong to label anyone against illegal immigration as racists. The fact is, the United States is a sophisticated 1st world country and most of the illegals whom are flooding across our border are from peasant societies who put little value in what Americans hold dear (such as education). The United States has proven time and again to be perhaps the most tolerant nation the world has ever seen and has assimillated many different ethnic groups into the melting pot of our nation. The problem I see with the Latino invasion is that, unlike other ethnic groups, they don't care about becoming Americans. Instead they are happy segregating themselves in Spanish speaking slums, refusing to learn English and just generally accepting the table scraps US companies are willing to pay them. There is no effort being made by them to assimilate into the United States (we shouldn't have to do it for them), to become Americans. They don't want that, they want to stay Mexican, El Salvadoria, etc and live in our nation. This can only lead to the balkanization of the United States into English speaking America and a psuedo Latin American state. Perhaps the question should not be "why is this such a racist issue" i.e "why are American's so racist", but instead should be, "why don't Latinos want to become part of our country?"
You're exactly right.
And they'll deny it and deny it and deny it.
If it wasn't racially motivated, these people would be on other sections of Yahoo letting off steam about other forms of illegal activity- underage drinking, insider trading, etc. They say all they care about is legality, but they don't seem to care about any of those issues that aren't race-related.
If their were 25 million illegal Russians marching in the streets demanding rights they have no right to, and taking jobs from Americans and over crowding our schools demanding we teach their children in Russian, demanding we speak Russian and changing our anthem to the Russian language, I would want their as*es deported and fast. They would be no different. I don't no how much whiter you can get than that. Then they would be the rudest immigrants to every come to this country. But if you have noticed it is not other illegal immigrants that are marching and demanding just the ones from Mexico and Central America, like some stupid Mexican said ( we don't need no badges) we come if we want, and you keep your mouth shut. Sorry the American people will not keep their mouth shut. If the government wants Mexicans here they should let the ones that have done it legally and are still waiting in Mexico to come over. Illegal should not get a free pass.
I don't view it as a racial thing now, really. The fact is if you're illegal, you're illegal. If you're asking the American taxpayers to support you endlessly, don't come. We're not going to take it anymore. People make it a racial issue and it isn't. The fact that it's predominantly Lationo has maybe caused racial tension but it's the financial burden that is devastating.
