Does THREE misdemeanors or a felony sound like proper 'screening' to you? What about gangs?

What do you think? Is this what you expected when you heard they would be 'screened'? And what do you think of the 'temporary' legalization with no screening at all?
Answer:
DAR DAR DAR...Do you really think these criminals are going to come forth?
There is a huge cultural disconnect between illegals and our politicians/citizens..What I mean by cultural disconnect is that many of these people, don't trust govt, because of past dealings with Mexican govt..I am already hearing their arguments , especially when I watch Spanish News stations, they are already saying, we don't want to pay the govt. $5,000 and then be asked to leave..They are saying, what guarantee do we have we will be let back in.This would be the kind of stunt Mexico would pull on its people.I think this bill will NOT work and will continue keeping people underground. Its only going to keep the real criminals here, undetected and the undocumented workers in the shadows because of mistrust in the govt.
Yes we do agree, this is a bad bill!
well..someone has to bring the tequila over!!?!
None of that will matter since the entire country will live in a prison-like setting like North Korea in the next (8-9) years!
they should all be screened. i would think the majority of them have a record. so i guess we will continue to have the illegals here. maybe the next president will do something, we need to demand the next one to.
what criminals I hope these criminals of which you speak of are americans. cuz mexicans or any other latinos are not criminals.
DAR,
The article doesn't make much sense in light of the fact in most jurisdictions, 3 DUIs constitute an aggravated felony under immigration law. Additionally, it is mentioned that the bill will provide additional measures for sex offenders, etc. Pretty much all of the crimes listed therein are ALSO aggravated felonies. What is the point for Senator Cornyn to introduce such a pointless bill, given that aggravated felons won't qualify to legalize anyway? Could it be political posturing?
Additionally, I don't know where you get the idea that there will be no screening for the temporary folks. Every application requires biometrics. Fingerprints and photos are taken and an FBI check is always run on people who apply for immigration benefits. If there is anything the government takes seriously it is CRIMINAL aliens (and no, I'm not refering to entering without inspection -- undocumented. I'm talking about immigrants who commit real crimes).
I'm horrified that illegal immigrants with one misdemeanor are allowed to stay here. I know some states want to give some rights to illegals so they would come forth if they see a crime, but Convicted??
