As I am an American I can only comment on Mexican-Americans. I think if they want to be here the need to come in legally, I don't understand why they come here and try to change our country when they could change their own. But that's just been my experience.
I am an American as well.
As long as they are here legally they are fine.
What I think is irrelevant.
They either speak French or German. If here Legally, they are both Welcome, the Problem we have now is the ones here
illegally, regardless of ethnic makeup.
I don't think people in other countries call themselves anything other than th country they are from. I never hear of Costa rican - Mexicans or Spanish-Cubans

I'm an American & all my children are American, even though some of the adopted ones have different ethnic ancestors than I do. Come here legally, obey our laws & I will welcome you with open arms. Otherwise, go home.

I don't understand the reason for this question. Most of us are Something-American. We are a country of Immigrants. It's just that some of our forefathers immigrated long before others did.
Whether Swiss American or Mexican American is immaterial, as long as each person is a good citizen and respects our country.
Those who sneak into this country illegally are not really immigrants, but usurpers taking advantage of American largesse. There are proper channels for immigration that should be followed. Otherwise, why have laws at all?
I am Mexican-American, I think the best about Mexican-Americans we are great Americans, because we made ,forged and built America. America is a big melting pot or mixing bowl, we are America, but some of us want to exclude our fellow undocumented tax payer campesinos.
