Senators today denounced as excessive the prison sentences for two Border Patrol agents You agree ?
Texas Republican Sen. John Cornyn, California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein and other members of the Senate Judiciary Committee criticized the 12- and 11-year prison sentences given to ex-agents Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos, respectively. And they strongly questioned federal prosecutors' decision to charge the pair with using a weapon during the commission of a crime — a 10-year penalty that most often is used against drug dealers and other criminals, not law enforcement officers obliged to carry guns as part of their jobs.
"This really is a case of prosecutorial ... overreaction in charging," said Feinstein. She chaired the hearing, which was attended by the wives of the ex-agents and other relatives.
The senators bored in on some of the case's most nagging questions: Why the drug smuggler, who had been driving a van with a million-dollar payload of marijuana, was given immunity to testify against Ramos and Compean; why the trafficker was given unfettered permission to cross into the United States after the agents were charged; and whether he used that border-crossing privilege to bring in another million-dollar marijuana haul just months after the February 2005 incident near El Paso.

They should be set free as their case is appealed. Sutton railroaded them and hid the fact that the drug dealer was caught again with a big load of drugs smuggling them across the border. As to the wretch being unarmed, that is a pile of crap. No drug dealer with $1,000,000.00 in drugs is going to be unarmed. That would be beyond STUPID! Those two Agents are lucky to be ALIVE today.
Why do you accept the word of a known, admitted drug dealer over that of two Border Patrol agents and their boss?
Answer:
Long overdue but I am glad its happening, I also can not wait until all the details of this case come out. How that same drug smuggler was caught just a short time later with a very important business card in his pocket and an even bigger load of drugs... He also sued the American people for 5 million dollars for the violation of his "civil rights" - all while Ramos and Campeon sit in a jail cell for doing their jobs...
They should free the border agents
they shot an unarmed man...case closed.
I think every American was to pin a medal on those border patrol agents.
Fire those emails to your Senators and Representatives and put the pressure on to get them freed via Presidential Pardon (Hey, if the Commander-In-Chump can do it for his buddy, he can do it for 2 innocent BP Officers that were doing their jobs), and get Sutton FIRED and prosecuted for prosecutorial misconduct.
I was watching Lou Dobbs report on that.am glad somebody else is raising the awareness of this witch hunt!
This will not be a popular answer, but congress needs to focus on securing the borders and deporting illegals. They have that power. This is just more diversion tactics as to what is not getting done on the hill. Don't let them sway you, keep them focused. Bringing this up right now is going to do nothing but try and divert attention. They need to keep this on the list for the President to handle when he does his end of his term pardons.
You cons want to get tough on criminals...unless they are Republican!
You left this out!
"Agents Compean and Ramos crossed the line. They are not heroes," Sutton said. "They deliberately shot an unarmed man in the back without justification, destroyed evidence to cover it up and lied about it. These are serious crimes."
Prosecutors couldn't charge trafficker Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila with bringing the marijuana into the United States during the February 2005 incident because of the agents' misconduct, which deprived prosecutors of any evidence linking him directly to the van, Sutton said. As for the border-crossing privileges, Sutton described them as somewhat routine in cases where prosecutors need to gain access to Mexican witnesses, particularly in drug trafficking investigations. And Sutton denied that Aldrete-Davila can be directly linked to the second marijuana payload found in October 2005."
No, I disagree with the policies that put them in that position in the first place...
Well i'm not a politician, so i don't really know what to say about this..
bush should pardon Compean and Ramos.
those 2 fine deputys were put out to hang! if i was 1 of them i would not have wounded the illegal/drug dealer, i would hv blown his head off and let him lay there so other smugglers would take the hint... those officers deserve a pay raise/ medals. and extral retirement pay
Yes.
Yes , what and who is behind their excessive imprisonment . Think about it , why did they go so far to put them in prison . . Something stinks about the whole thing . Is someone in high places into drug dealing ???
All the info is at firesociety. com . The Senators have all the info not just what was printed in the Chronicle. One part that made Sutton's office look bad that they lied to the Senate about certain eveidence. This occurred during the initial investigation by the Senate .Sutton's office had to admit they lied.
they are heros
These men should have never been put into jail. John Sutton should be ashamed of this witch hunt he has led.
Yes, I agree. Sutton smells, altogether. I have read some interesting things about him and the House of Death cases, too. I can't imagine why he is so highly thought of in the administration.
