Do people know why most call centers have press 2 for spanish?

Yes to accommodate the substantial Spanish speaking population in the USA, and also the fact many of these call centers deal with that Spanish speaking place called Puerto Rico.

Answer:
These companies work all over the globe. It is sheer stupidity to assume they would only have an English line.I go to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, you're met at the door and asked in several languages if you need an interpreter.Because people from all over the world come there. It's not to accommodate a certain faction and bowing down to them. It's business on a world scale not just American.
duh, you just figured that out?
And Puerto Rico is, after all, a part of the US. Puerto Ricans are US citizens.
Well - the Mexicans don't need a war to get Texas and California back. all the illegal immigrants do that nicely.

As long as English speaking people don't have to press one for English ( in the United States).

P.S. Why do you think they DON'T have buttons for French, HIndu, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, Italian, Portuguese, or ANY other language. There are MANY millions of people from these countries. And in certain areas of the country, they greatly exceed the number of "Spanish speaking population" residing there.

The actual # does NOT matter. It is DISCRIMINATION to offer to one and not to all.

There are less than 4 million people in Puerto Rico. There are more than 4 million Spanish speaking people in Los Angeles alone...try again. Actual numbers do NOT matter.
honor your neighbors we may need each other
Unfortunately for people who must live near Puerto Ricans...Puerto Rico has the THIRD highest murder rate on the plant. And the first and second highest ALSO goes to hispanic countries.
Why don't they have push 3 for this language and push 4 for others. Those people don't require service? Are they all having an "easy" time learning English in this mish-mash failure of "bi-lingual" education that leaves them in the dust? They don't "deserve" to be catered to or have school be "easier" for them? Then what? A few decades down the road after these illegals die off and there's a new influx of immigrants from somewhere else, who then make up a substantial amout of the population...are we supposed to change the nations language to cater to them? Or are we going to end up with pockets of "other" countries just sharing land and making demands from the "other" areas? How many languages are you willing to learn to just go on vacation in your own country? Instead of color discrimination, and catering to various relegious beliefs are we then going to add "language" in the mix? Then some other group is going to be crying about discrimination because they can't get a job because they don't want to learn English OR Spanish and they want everything to switch to "catering" to them because they aren't getting the same standard of education or service because of their "language". Why complicate it worse? I mean is learning 1 common language such a big deal in a country with people from all over the world?

It's funny you should mention Puerto Rico because I lived where alot live in Florida until the influx of illegals came. Our store put signs up like "don't flush diapers down the toliet", "bathroom out of order", "do not enter...employees only".in English and Spanish because we were having such a problem with the Mexicans and it was the Puerto Ricans who made a big stink about it being in Spanish and said it was "racist" unless we had the signs printed in all the different languages because it made it look like the Spanish speakers were too stupid to learn English. We were ordered to take them down. Now we're here. Talk about confused. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
