Your friend can no nothing to assist you. It's up to you to convince a consular officer at the US embassy or consulate in your country that you will not overstay your visit.
The local USA embassy in your country should be able to help you but don't bother going if you plan on going to the USA to skip a refugee status hearing and sign up for welfare.
