How long have we had this illegal immigration problem?
Answer:
since the 1600's!
the clock restarted after the 1986 Amnesty
Since the 1980s. It became a chronic problem in the 1990s. But Congress did the least it could and the Govt did not enforce the immigration laws. That's why from 2000 onwards it became a major issue and now a major political issue.
Well, it is cumulatively worse, every day. It isn't like it is at the same level it was in 1987.
since the Eisenhower administration i think..
Since the last amnesty of '86... Thank the Reagan admin. for that one! You would think we would have learned a lesson from the last amnesty passed!
We noticed it first in the 50's...
it got worse when our military went to iraq. the spineless wait till our soldiers leave to really invade.
Since 1986 when we rewarded the last group of illegals.
Ummm. hello?!! Since the beginning of time.
We have had illegal immigration since California and the other western states joined the union. It became a problem to some people only recently. This debate is nothing more than a smokescreen to divert people's attention away from the other horrors facing this country.
ever since the pilgrims came to america and killed the indians.
Since the war we had with Mexico.
I read recently that the original function of the department of immigration (in the late 19th century?) was to *attract* foreign workers to the country.
Over 20 years through out the US and over 30 years in Southern Calif.
Its not a problem its just designed to make peopel pay to apply then process nothing in return for years or until such time they give up.
The gas company electric company can process orders read meters and service millions of homes and millions of businesses in America monthly why does it take 20-25 years to process one application for a green card and tell someone if they can stay or not?
The INS design it so people are forced to overstay their visa's or never see or be with their family.
Mexicans always cross the border illegally
from the time the border was invent
Probably since when California became a state...it's just been more prevalent now because all the other plans of the past failed.
The most controversial time was back in the 40's and 50s when "operation wet-back" came into play and Mexicans whether or not they were legal were deported because of pressure to do something about the overflow of immigrants..legal and illegal.
My grandfather was caught up in the raid and deported.. he became a citizen in 1918.
That was the last time anyone saw him.
Almost 100 years, since immigration laws were tightened up in the early part of the 20th century.
The recent nonsense dates back over 60 years. Not once in all that time has the government interferred with this cheap labor force coming into the country. Government knows big business, farmers, agribusiness and others depend on this cost-cutting work force and doesn't want to upset the apple cart by forbiding them to come.
I think the West has had it in large numbers since the 80's however the East Coast is relatively new to this and not liking it one bit. My state is now in the top 6 in illegal immigration and I am on the East Coast... I guess we Easterners did not pay that much attention to the situation because it was happening out West but it now has our complete attention.
Since right around 1960.
Press two for Spanish
Since 1970. This was just the beginning according to "numbersusa" If the rate of immigrants continue we will have so many people in th U.S.A by 2050 we will destroy our lakes and have deplete the land. It's time for a change. We should have stop so many immigrants from coming in years ago. But I think if strong action is taken now we can change the out look for our children. By stop illegals for being able to get work ( I think) would help. I know that America has people smart enough to come up with some thing. I just wish I know who they where. They don't seem to be in the White House in Washington D.C. LOL
iT'S BEEN AN ON GOING PROBLEM...BUT I AGREE.THE AMNESTY OF 1986 WAS TO BE THE END OF IT. WASN'T.SO PICK IT UP FROM THERE.
After the Last Amnesty , which was not enforced, as more
Social Programs became available, the floodgates opened up.
Don't any of the people who have answered ever bother to check their history?
Since the incept of the temporary migrant worker program established in the 1940's, there has been a steady flow of illegal immigration into the USA. Both countries turned a blind eye to the problem because it was convenient to both...that is until the problem got too big to ignore.
Since the Europeans came to the new world, Woot Woot Tribe Brule!
