Why do so many Mexicans leave their own democracy rather than electing people to help them?

I don't get it, When my parents and I came over from Ireland, we were escaping a deadly plague that killed 70% of the population. A lot of Asian and African immigrants are escaping oppresive regimes that weren't democratically elected. Why do Mexicans constantly keep coming over here when they elect their own leaders?

Answer:
Look beneath the surface of their statements. They have no desire to change their own government. They want ours to be theirs. Their actions speak louder than their words and their poor mouthing. Would people who really want a better life deliberately endanger their children by having them cross the border? Would sincere and trustworthy people who really want a better life cross the border illegally? Would they then willfully, wantonly and knowingly have babies on American soil knowing their illegal status could cause them to be deported and leave their children parentless? They, instead, are manipulating our people to benefit their illegal acts and are willfully, wantonly, and knowingly endangering their American Born Children as a means of getting welfare (their children are citizens and therefore have no income so they get welfare) and anchoring their sorry butts to the USA. It is organized crime at its finest and needs to be stopped.

The child of the illegal immigrant in Aurora, Illinois needs a bone marrow transplant. They are encouraging the Latinos to go to a Church in Aurora to get tested -- why? The "Sanctuary" of the Church in harboring illegals. I say the government should take the child, deport the parents and round up all the illegals. The parents made a deliberate decision to have the child, despite their illegal status and therefore have deliberately endangered that child's life. So, DCFS should take the child, terminate their parental rights, deport the parents and all the other illegals, or round them up and jail them and then ensure the child gets the bone marrow transplant he needs. We citizens pay for it either way. The parents don't deserve the child -- bottom line. I'll adopt him so he can be brought up as a law-abiding citizen instead of a manipulated lawbreaker.
Ever been to Mexico?

I am curious as to when this plague was in Ireland that you speak of. I am only aware of one and that was a long time ago. I am not up on my Irish history so enlighten me please.
Because like any other country, when these politicians run for office they promise them the stars and the moon, and once they are elected they put the country through the same thing: corruption...
This is a very good question. Thier country is poor but it would make more sense to fix their problems in their own country instead of coming to America and demanding rights here. Demand them at home. I think people just take things for granted.
the system there is very one-sided and the literacy rate is very low. the politicians there have to use pictoral representations and the votes are mostly based on visuals. there are very few places to vote; it is regarded as something not worthy of time, and since most of the time, it involves extensive travel and many don't have transportation or funds to do so, it is how they can manipulate the votes. in a historical sense, there is usually no benefit directly to the people and the poverty rate is quite high, because of poor government practices. there are more monetary opportunities in the us and the currency exchange rate almost always is superior. the country is right next door and once stable in us, the travel opportunity is higher. one more thing, there is only a certain class of people who usually decide to go to the us. people who have a higher standard of living in mexico usually stay put.
Like STRIVE said they promise everything! They rarely go through though. Calderon is actually doing some good things in Mexico like fighting the drug smugglers but than again I do not know what he is doing about immigration. What my real question is why are all the immigrants protesting here in the USA? How come we dont protest in Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela, etc? Why are we trying to do something that we dont do in our country?
One word:

Jobs.
The main reason is economic. Even for Irish immigrants durring the 1847 potato blight that did kill many people, it was just really the final straw in an economic problem. It killed about 12% of the people not 70%. The Irish famine that you talk about was largely fixed within a few years, but Irish immigrants kept comeing for the next 100 years or so in large numbers.

When it comes to immigration, the presence of democracy or not is much less important to individuals than their personal material well being. Only rarely do even the worst governments get so repressive that their policies impact people in their daily lives more than their personal wealth and ability to spend it.

Just like in Ireland the initial group of immigrants left Mexico for hunger or political reasons, but many of the later ones came for economic ones and because they knew of others who had succeeded in the USA.

Many people in Mexico still go hungry, and while most of the population there lives well, there are more hungry Mexicans today (in Mexico) due to poverty than the population of Ireland in the 1840s.

Finally it is just a whole lot easier to move today than in the past. In the 1840s it involved months on a boat. Today even many of the poor in Mexico can travel to the US border in no more than a couple days on a bus.

It is not like a politician can be elected to "solve" a countries poverty. It is a slow process even if the right policies are implemented, and even then most people disagree on what the right policies are.

Due to corruption until the last 15 years or so Mexico did not realy have a democracy in fact, and over the last 50 or so years Mexico has had famines.
So why doesn't the US elect people who help American citizens rather than just bitching on MyTend.com s?

Oh that's right, not everyone is of the same opinion and the rich are more powerful than the poor.
Because democracy as you know it is still going through the diaper stage in Mexico. Right up to 2000 Mexico was still living under the oppression of one ruling political party, the PRI, who had been in power for 70 years. If you ever bothered to read Distant Neighbors you would understand that we did not elect our leaders, we always knew that whoever was chosen as the presidential candidate for the PRI, was sure to be the next President. This was rigged by the PRI and it was a cushy arrangement for them, of course not for us. Then along came an oddball named Vicente Fox, the guy was elected President and he represented the leading opposition party, the PAN. It was a historical election and the PRI was finally kicked out. We are into our second term under a PAN president, and in seven years people find it easy to complain about how things have not gotten better, but they have, Mexico is undergoing profound changes but after 70 years of mismanagement and deeply ingrained corruption, it is hard to get the country on the right track in such a short time, but we are trying. Mexicans have been going over into the USA for decades, and more so since the 1940's and both countries turned a blind eye until the problem just got too big to ignore. Mexico is a country that still has a long way to go before we achieve a stable economy, and jobs that pay decent wages in order to live with a certain measure of dignity. You are not aware of that because your standard of living is way better than in Mexico, but the wages in Mexico are poverty level, so people emmigrate looking for a better life. Farming is out of the question because people are too poor to invest in technology that would enable them to produce more, and they get paid a pittance for their hard work growing crops. Young people are unable to find a job after graduation. Our police force is corrupted like hell by the drug dealers, our politicians only worry about themselves, the desperately needed amendments to laws are being held back in Congress by bickering between political parties, each trying to score points on each other. The country is owned by a few obscenely rich families and foreign corporations, unions are another viciously corrupt group that fight to earn more by working less. The people are also terrified of the insecurity, where, executions, robberies, assaults, murders are rife, and of course the drug dealers have chosen the streets of the cities to air their petty territorial disputes and gunfights. Of course nobody pays attention to us, the people. We still have a long way to go, and yes, we do elect our own leaders, as of 2000, BUT the candidates put out by the parties are definitely not the best this country has to offer. Last year we voted for a new president. The candidate who won was the least worst choice. It is sad that we cannot vote for the best choice, but the least worst. That should clarify something for you, because people from all walks of life are leaving this country for yours, from brilliant minds, very well-to-do, to the poorest of the poor. Many of us to elect to stay and struggle against all odds to make this a better country for all Mexicans.
Our current situation is impossible to sum up into such a simplistic remark like yours.
Because it is easier to go steal a good thing, than create it yourself.

America is a Ferrari!

I'll never own one, even though I work hard, I am smart, I am educated. The chances are that other things will imact my life in ways that I will never accumulate enough cash to buy one for myself (or maintain one). Those things are family, tradition and other homeowner expenses.

But that doesn't mean that I'm about to go steal my neighbors Ferrari.

So Mexico work hard, think smart, become educated and fix your own country. Stop dreaming of Ferraris and things that you can not have (that you don't need to have). Dream of what you can have: family, tradition, and life in your homeland.

Fight for your Mexico.
How is it a Democracy if their politicians are puppets for drug cartels? ever been to mexico and talk to their people, oh wait they can't tell what really goes on there because the cartel will send the execution squad to their house and take out their entire family and maybe rape a couple of their women . did i also mention that the police are partakers in some of these execution squads?
Why do we have to put up with illegal immigration in our country if we elect our own leaders? The problem is simply that we hear all this sugar-coated bull crap, we are promised everything under the sun, we are told about this plan and that plan, but it never happens. Same with Mexico. They elect leaders that they "think" are going to get rid of the corruption and really make Mexico a place worth living, but it never happens.and as long as people love money, it probably will never happen.
Yo have u been to Mexico at all?

I doubt 'cause if u have than u know whats up right there. There is a lot of corruption and not much money people can earn.Since U.S is supposibly the land of opportunity they come here to try and give us ,their children, a better life.
If they don't enter the US on a visa, then they are breaking the law.
Fleeing to the US to escape poverty is not acceptable.
Seeking assylum is not what they are doing.
To qualify for asylum under U.S. law the applicant must show that he or she has been persecuted in the past or fears persecution in the future due to his or her race, religion, nationality, membership in a particular social group, and/or political opinion. Persecution or its threat must come from the applicant’s home country government itself or from an individual or group that the government is unable or unwilling to control.
Either way, there is a process to enter or stay here. They ae breaking the law.
